How do!!

I've had my 04 Factory for approximately 1 year and she's been the nuts! However, she's developed a strange (to me) fault.

On occasion, when I switch her off and remove the key, she continues to run. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it her?

Any help is appreciated.

Could be the ignition switch itself but immobilisor ecu issues are quite common on these due to water ingress. They do some strange stuff when they go wrong including starting with no key, stay running etc.

Check the ecu to see if it looks split/damaged or corroded and the white connector above it for corrosion etc. It's on the left inner fairing panel, small black box with ZARDI on it.

If the immibisor light on the dash does strange things that might be a clue.

Sorry for the long delay....

I've just got back from a hot place. I had to leave her with that fault, but yesterday when I tried to start her a plume of smoke came from the left fairings and up through the yolk. As you can imagine I flapped a little.... More so when it didn't go away and the key was in my hand.

Having stripped her down and inspected the offending area, I've become familiar with the 04 immobiliser Problem but there is no repairing this one. I had a second hand one on standby and thats on now, but I'm struggling to find a dealer that will entertain reprogramming it.

Thanks very much for your response spoonz.

John.

I had that problem on my 04 and tracked it to the starter solenoid earthing out. Almost dropped it a couple of times when it tried to restart after I turned it off even with the side stand down and in gear. Replacement had modification to include a large piece of rubber between the new one and frame.
