RSV Factory Replacement Clocks

Hi Guys,

I'm sure this subject has been covered before but thought i'd post up a request for some information. My RSV Factory clocks are misting up and have a crack at the top. They function perfectly well but i can't help thing a replacement would look better.

My other bike has a translogic dash fitted & i was hoping to fit one to this. Is it possible to replace the standard clocks or do they have the imobiliser built in?

they don't have the imobilisor in the clocks matebut they do have a specific resistance that the ecu requires for the motor to run - the wiring system is a CAN BUS system so its a bit like a network in that the ecu expects specific voltages from different parts of the loom and its end points.

So you'll need to add the resistors to fool the system if you want to run an aftermarket dash

ahh, that sounds like it could be a bit of a mission. Has it been done before & is there a wiring diagram that shows the resistance requirements or is it a case of running a multimeter across the clocks?

a chap posted on here a while back saying that the resistors were needed but I think he said whoever wanted to do it would need to do exactly that (measure the clocks resistance etc). I'm sure it must have beendone as they raced the factories over in the states in the ama champs and I'm fairly sure they would have run aftermarket clocks.

Smemly, if it's a GenII onwards you have to keep the standard clocks on board m8. Believe me no two ways about it.

Spooky, I'm guessing you've moved the clocks and tee'd into the appropriate wires to power the dash? Where did you move the clocks to?

As an idea, could you split the original clocks and just use the circuit board? Might be able to resin it in a plastic case?

Sorry for the late reply fellas

Deacs : It's not that hard m8 but DO NOT take any notice of the wiring instruction from Translogic, you will end up with a ****** up dash or ecu.

Smemly : Your quite right, I tucked the standard clocks down inside the fairing and then spliced into the required wires. I was going to go down the route of splitting the clocks and just using the circuit board but decided against it coz at least this way I could still read fault codes etc. The lights and indicators are easy other bits like speed sensor and tacho pickup took a bit longer. The tacho was my biggest problem as Translogic say to use a coil pickup and this can't be done 100% on a Gen 2 coz of the CAN bus system. This is what fried one dash and nearly caused the ecu to implode.

I know Ravin Beef is having a go as I gave him my wiring plan but haven't heard how he's got on.

cheers for the info Spooks - good man, don't spoze I could have a copy the wiring diag could I?! :)

cheers

& me as well, i think i'll order a set up in the next couple of days.

i took my speedo off the otherday to put blue leds and started the bike wish no dash and it worked. So does that mean i will be able to fit a translogic dash easily? I have a 2002 gen 1 rsv mille

I don't think there are any big issues with fitting the Translogic dash to the gen 1. It's more of a problem on the gen 2. Speak to Tash on here, I think that he has done it and can also supply the dash too.

Rob :)

I knew someone would have an answer, this has been on my todo list for a while but kept being told it was a no go .

Any one got some pics of the dash fitted

as apostrophe says, its not an issue with the gen1's - the gen2's however use a CANBUS system that required certain resistances to be returned to the ecu whilst in operation (hence why Spooky kept the original dash tucked away).

here's a pic of STL's gen1 with the same dash as Spooks

I have a 2nd Gen 2004 RSV 1000 Factory and want to fit the Translogic Dash. Can anyone send me details of where/how to hide the standard dash and also the wiring diagram to attach the new dash? I'd like to have most of the answers from someone who has carried out the procedure before I commit.

I have fitted the translogic to both gen1 and gen2's, I am just about to go away for the week end but if you pm me a contact number I will call you on Monday morning to run through it with you.
