RSV Edwards Rep on the Dyno

Hi Guys / Girls

I decided to take my Edwards Replica for a Dyno run today, too see roughly what the fueling and BHP were like.
The place I visited was HM Racing in Orpington. Nice little place with friendly staff.
Had a good discussion about fueling and the advantages of having a Power Commander.

I am just an average road rider with no ambition to going on the Track therefore my main concern is the running of the bike, fueling etc.

The bike is standard except from a Renegade style Carbon Airbox. Now I was assuming that by having this Airbox fitted I would notice some great BHP figures, this is true however the bike does require some additional tweaks to take full advantage of the Airbox Modification.

So with the graphs below, I have decided to have a PC3 fitted, this is being done next week and that will also include a custom map to suit my set up, their should be a noticeable difference to the charts in terms of fueling and a few extra BHP.
We shall wait and see.

Now what I do understand is that no 2 Dyno places are the same, therefore for continuity purposes I will continue to use HM Racing to avoid any fluctuations in either BHP or fueling.

Thats very interesting, I ran my standard 2002 Haga rep on a dyno a few weeks back, it returned just under 120 bhp and a shade under 70ib/ft torque at the wheel. I've just taken delivery of a renegade style airbox and I'm in the process of ordering a 57mm throttle body kit which includes a chip and velocity stacks so I'll be interested in seeing what difference that makes

Hi Billy
I was getting excited thinking that id be in the 124hp bracket due to the 57's + Full System + Edwards Chip + Airbox Mod but as the guy explained its all very well having these parts but the Custom Map should make a difference as the bikes are restricted at the factory end in order to comply with emissions and the likes. :(
I was told that Graph Number 2 needs to be lowered, although level across the range this is where I will make up some extra Bp. ;)

I will post the results next Thursday, I got my fingers crossed for atleast 130bp, not that it matters but its just a figures thing

Regards

Jake

Fingers crossed for you Jake, I'll be interested to see what happens, I'll be going down the power commander route too and as you said, every Dyno's different. Are you expecting an increase in torque too? Did you notice much of a difference on the road after your airbox mod?

Hi Billy
Having fitted the modified Airbox I personally felt that the bike was more responsive.
I took it for a test run down one of my usual routes and I recall giggling as the front of the bike lifted on the first exit. So in my opinion it did make a difference. Its been quoted that this mod alone gives an extra 6bp.

I would have thought the bike would have had abit more Hp to be fair with your mod's already . Last run I did on mine was 122 at the wheel with my own mod's & tuning the bike myself , Have just fitted Alain's [ DR Rossi's ] own 57's etc off his bike last nite & man it sounding very angry . Will have to get it back to the Dyno to see how things are now . Willl be interested to see the improvement you get once the PCiii is fitted & tuned .. Make sure you get them to Twin Map the bike , 1 map for the front cylinder & another seperate map for the rear cylinder . It is the only way to correctly tune a Twin ! Have just gotten Dr Rossi to make a copy of a PCIII Twin map I sent him for my 51's , he cleaned it up & tweeked it & then put it onto a Eprom for me to try & it was amazing the difference over a standard fueling map that does both cylinders together . Will be get the new 57's done once my Money tree starts to produce afew more $$$ notes this summer lol

Hi Sensei,
Thanks for your post and the tips regarding "Twin mapping the bike".
I was slightly disappointed truth be told as I did expect a better output, but then again that may be down to that particular Dyno???

Once I get my PC3 + Custom Map I will then try another Dyno to see if theirs a greater variation on the figures.

Ill keep you all posted.

Regards

Jake.

My tune (chart on the other thread) renegade box, brand new air filter, twin sbks, akra SBK chip, 57 throttle bodies (the bike is an Edwards Rep with 9,000 miles) indicated 130 bhp. Was Fuchs dyno and set up by Southern Cross whom spend what seem hours setting it up and used all the fuel in a full tank to do it (I alway fill the tank to full before a dyno PC set up).

I had my old 2002 with renegade box, modified air snorkels/inlets, Aprilia Ti racing exhaust and Aprilia Ti racing exhaust chip set up by Southern Cross too on same dyno, same people with a P. Commander gave 121.8 bhp max. That also done 9000 miles.

V2 check your chip - the chip you want is NOT the chip with the yellow sticker with "Edwards" written on it but the chip that comes with the SBK exhaust.

i know we shouldn't ask but . the one called griff is as all will agree is the god on here for setting a bike up .so in comparison how do this lot you used compare ?? and what was the price if you dont mind me asking for a power run and set up ??

Hi Mate
Griff has serviced my bike a few times, and what he doesn't know isn't worth knowing that we can all agree on.
This is the only time since owning my Ape have I let someone else other than Griff interfere with it.

The power run= £50, Power Commander 3 = £266 and the Custom Map = £165

Total after VAT = £565.18

Alot of money agreed, but the main aim here is not to chase a few extra bp but to improve the overall responsiveness of the bike.

V2 Fan just remmeber that if you get a Twin map programe then you will have to Dyno tune the bike twice to achieve this so it will be cost you double . This is why most don't go down this road as they don't want to be paying for 2 setup dyno tune runs instead of one which is fairly dear to start with .

hey sensei..can you explian in laymans terms how this works?...twin map ?..how does this load on the pc3 when its one map normally...cant get my head round it..

Thanks Mark
I need to get all the info as id rather have it done once and done right.

Thanks again Sensei !

Basically each cylinder is mapped seperately & given their own fuel table which is then loaded onto the PCIII hence the 2 dyno runs to achieve both fueling tables on the front & rear cylinders . PCIII can hold more than 1 map in them , was told how it worked but can't rememeber how to explan it correctly , will check with my man & get the Technical explanation for ya . Righty O here goes . The PCII needs to be put into a Advance programe mode to enable the dual mapping but not hard when you know how to , The PCIII can do a Inline 4 with 4 seprate maps for each cylinder but as I was told it had taken him 2 days of dyno tuning which would be **** loads of $$$$$$ , was done for a Super bike here which won the Series so I guess worth it if ya have the money to do it . So the end result is even though you can do 4 Fuel maps on a R1 / GSXR etc it is just to bloody much work & money for most . Garry said the Dual map on the Twins is the only way to go even though you have around 1,1/2 dyno runs to achieve this it is by far the best method for prefect fueling . The early model RSV's need a special tube to be put into the headers to get their fuel ratio mixture readings from but the Dyno shop should have this type of stuff . . So I hope that has helped abit more . All I know is my bike without the dual map run hard but after using the Twin map it was outstanding & even sent Dr Rossi my map which he cleaned up even more & then put it onto a Eprom so I didn't need to run the PCIII . All abit redundant now as I brought a set of 57mm throttle bodys of Alain now but it will be getting the same Dyno work in the near future so will keep all posted on how things go .

Outstanding Information Sensei
I will give my Dyno man a call Monday morning and enquire as to the additional cost.
I have no future plans of further modifications so I might take the hit £ safe in the knowledge that its done right allowing for the best mapping.

Thanks again

Jake

let me know how it goes Jake...could i be cheeky and nick the map off you?...got a 57 map to load but a dual map seems the way to go

cheers ..the guys at HM are a good bunch my mate used to deal with them a lot..think he did some testing for them at Brands for their supermotard bikes...ask if they know a guy called CHICKEN...(aka ANDY NICHOLS)
