Hi chaps, never done a track day, but am defo doing one this year. Thinking of doing a Ron Haslam and using their bikes as i wouldnt like to take my baby and fall off her:eek:.. Anyone done one or recommend something similar for a novice??:dunno

I've done 7 Haslams over the years: one CBR600 (Premier) and six Blades (Elite).

I find them excellent. Good value for money (compare that with the cost of running your own track bike). Everything's provided; you have no liability (if you trash the bike) and it's a friendly atmosphere. Being only 1/3 day, it's an easy venue for there-and-back-in-a-day from most places in the UK.

The only upset to this is that Haslam's tied in with Donington, and as we know, no-one's taken the lease for Donington since the ill-fated demise of Donington Ventures Leisure. So he's all dressed up with nowhere to go at the moment. Shame!

Kevin Wheatcroft (the owner) is touting around for a new leaseholder. Let's hope he finds one soon, then Haslam and other trackdays companies might return to Donington once again. It's a lovely circuit to ride.

hello mate, i'll second that, never done a track day before (hoping to do lots this summer!) but did the 600 haslam day last summer and it was great!

you get paired between one instructor so they can keep a close eye on you, and get 3 track sessions of about 20 minutes each, however the guy i was paired with had one of the 600's himself, and i was a rank novice so they gave him the option of going with another instructor, so we both ended up getting one to one tuition! handy being a slow guy for once!!

was really happy with the instruction (he was a bsb privateer) and he had me getting my footpegs and knees down by the last session :biggrin:biggrin:doug (first time for me!)

and as brg says, NO liability, 2 people binned it in the last session, but i wouldnt reccomend that as you wont be asked back! :thumbup

the only downside being that they use buzzy gruntless il4s!!

go for it! you'll have a cracking day!:thumbup

Not done the Ron Haslam school but can recommend the Hopp Better Rider Training days held at Cadwell.

These days are for people who want to get on track in a realitively safe environment and with no pressure to go any faster than your happy with.

Check out the link to find out more. I did one last year and am booked in for the 12th May this year. http://www.hoppridertraining.co.uk/betterriding.html

Do they supply bike as well if you don't want to take yours?

No bikes supplied. Thats the whole point of the day. To provide tuition for you on your own road bike in a safe and controlled environment.

Check out the web site (previous post) for more details.

I will second what DT has said, Hopp Better Rider Training days held at Cadwell.
Not only are the instructors helpful and know their stuff you are taught in the same premise of the old Nurburg ring course where you are in groups and follow around so you can learn your way round, then you have time to put that into practice; another good thing about the Hopp training is thats its a full day and you have some of the best instructors in the country!

The other TrackDay which in normally great for a first trackdayer is
1st, TrackTamers as they are novice biased on some of there days
2nd is a group called IXION.
3rd is NO LIMITS which I have been using for a while, instructors are good track time is great just put yourself in the correct group and if you have not done a trackday then NOVICE is the place to be and ask for instruction

I normally group book NO LIMITS days as we get a bit of discount

Anyone know what sort of decibels my Delkevics 350mm's will put out with baffles in? will they be under the 105 they require or do i need the standard cans back on?:dunno

Excellent news. see you there on the day. I'll be on a red 04 RSVR with a Doohan rep helmet.

Exhaust with the baffles in should be perfectly OK for noise but don't quote me on that one.

The Ron Haslam Elite day is good with pretty good feedback and telemetry but the premier day is *****! I spent half the day following someone in 3rd gear watching them try to get their knee down.....would be ok if they take the time to match the pairs on speed and ability.
