Rev limiter setting

Hi Guys
Well I'm a new Millie Factory owner (03 plate). Had it a coupel of months only and love it. Took it to Silverstone this weekend for a track outing ... clearly forgetting that I hadn't done a track day for 4 years! Got the suspension fine tuned by 100% which helped smooth it out and build the confidence .. so a good day all in.

Couple of things some of the guru's may be able to help with.

The only change I had was to put the titanium race cans on before the track day. Didn't notice any wires or anything so guess my problem is not with a sensor of any kind. I had the rev limiter was set to 12,000 rpm by the shop. Actually riding it the red light flashes at 7,500 ... back to the pits and, following the manual, tried to reset it. It would not let me re-set above 7,500 .. the needle just swung back to zero. Any ideas? the only other thing that happened was the small air scoop in the front fairing parted company with me at some point!!!

Otherwise peachey ... except the gearing is all wrong for the slow flick-flack onto the start finish .. or maybe me balls ain't big enough to give the berries! Any advice would be great! Oxy

It isn't a rev limiter - it's just a warning light that you can adjust to tell you to change up a gear. I've forgotten how to adjust it but it tells you in the owners manual. :thumbup

Standard gearing on the Factory models is 16/40 but this is considered to be too high. Changing the front sprocket to 15 teeth is an easy mod which improves acceleration and low speed riding (particulary in town). Many owners also change to rear to 42 teeth. Both of these changes can be done on a standard length chain.

You mention that you have fitted race cans...have you had the ECU changed over to map 2 which you need to do if using less restrictive race cans with no catalytic converter.

Thanks. re the rev limiter problem. I can adjust as per the manual and originally did this to 12,000 rpm but now it won't let me set it above 7,500 rpm. Could be connected with the need to change the ecu to map 2. is this straightforward?

Changing over to map 2 isn't a difficult job but I'm afraid it can only be done by a dealer with the Aprilia Axone test equipment. I think I paid about £30 to get it changed and the the CO levels checked. I don't think you will damage your bike by not getting it changed over but your ECU currently thinks that you have catalytic converters fitted and makes it's calculations accordingly. It should run better once you've had it changed over.
