Reset clocks?

Hi guys, picking up an RSV (2005) next week (can't wait, never owned one before). The odometer reads 97miles, when I asked what the actual mileage was the sales chap looked up the service history and it was roughly 5500miles. So I asked why it was showing only 97m and he said that it was probably because the battery had been off at some stage and this can cause a resetting of the clocks. I was wondering whether any of you had heard of this before? I currently own a ZX6r and although I have changed the battery on it it has never reset the clocks.

There was a fault on a few early 2003/4 RSVR's whereby the mileometer on the clocks reset when the battery was disconnected. It can only happen once however. Looks like this was one of the affected bikes. You can have the clocks reprogrammed to the correct mileage by a specialist company for around £50. Welcome to the club fella, you'll adore the bike i'm sure :thumbup

What he said......:roll....but it CAN happen more than once....it did on mine. i think it depends how long the battery is off for cos when i put a new battery in a few months ago it didnt happen again...........axone tool from an aprilia dealer can tell how many hours the engine has run for and you can estimate the mileage that way

Thanks guys, picking it up on Thursday, so hopefully (fingers crossed) it will still be raining by then........:sarcasm

You'll not regret it mate....mine's also had the reset experience, but I understand it only happens once...my battery went rather flat a while back and the rev limit needle etc reset to factory but the mileage remained as was.....You just have to look past some of the idiosyncratic elements of RSVR ownership and enjoy!!
