Replacement front disc advice pls......

I need a new set of front discs cos my ones have heat spots on them which cause a vibration through the bars (only sometimes)............
This is what I think my options are ?????
1.Replace them with the same I have now.
2.Put wavey discs.
My mate had a set of waveys on his factory and they caused a considerable judder through the bars all the time,Is that normal for wavey discs ?
Also would I be correct in assuming that they would chew the pads a lot quicker ?
Any advice would be much appreciated........

Thanks

Ian............

P.s I don't if it sway anyones advice but I do use the bike everyday for my commute from Chislehurst to Camden..........

I have these CLICK LINK wavey discs on my bike and theres only a slight judder when slow braking sometimes noticed just before coming to a halt at a junction in a town. No judder when braking at speed. No judder when not braking.
I have no complaints about their stopping power and my pads are lasting well with even wear, the rotors are also wearing evenly.

I have the same problem, sometimes they vibrate sometimes they dont :)

I kinda like this ones

Also looked at iron ones, but the rusting is a problem. They do suppose to offer better feel and braking, but if Ill use the bike once a month... I dont wont them to rust away :D

mine did the same as yours mate so i had a good look on ebay and got a pair of new OE ones for £170 (and i do use my rsv every day as well)

Mine juddered like a ******* one weekend, it turned out to be three or four disc bobbins seized up. A little WD40 a 4mm drill bit with a little patience and normal service was resumed. :thumbup

If the bobbins are free to rotate then you should be good to go, a quick test is pull your front brake on and rock the bike back and forth, you should hear the disc clunk a little as it moves on the bobbins.

Try it and see if it cures your judder, damn site cheaper than a pair of discs.

Sweet as I will double check that...I normally go over the discs and clean out the holes on the disc of any brake dust when I clean it but will defo check them there bobbins there.........

I didn't mean to imply that anyone here wasn't a REAL motorcyclist and doesn't ride everyday in all weathers, obviously like you and I...........
Just thought it may change someone's advice regarding the wavey pad wear....
Also Lee do come up m20 to commute....you might have seen me with my topbox bolted to the rear seat with a road legal number plate displayed on it ?

They should rotate freely, my advice is to remove your brake calipers so that any excess WD40 doesn't get on to your pads. Insert that 4mm drill bit, then rotate and wiggle it at the same time until the bobbin has spun round and all that WD40 has worked its way in to the contact areas.

Once you're all done get some fairy liquid in a bowl of hot water and scrub those discs clean to get rid of all that excess WD40.

Refit the calipers and hey presto your brake judder should be gone. (With a bit of luck)

PS. Is that Chislehurst in Kent, if yes then just 20 mins away from you.

Funnily enough I'm off up to see Hooked tomorrow afternoon to meet up with Griff, he's a stones throw from you. See the map!

Gonna be there from about 3.30pm till late if you are around!

can confirm that it is a common misconception that judder or shimmy as it is called, is attributed to ' warped ' discs. Cleaned my bobbins regularly and hey Presto, vibration is gone. The bobbins have a spring loaded washer on rear of disc which allows the disc to ' move ' , hence the term ' full floating discs '.....keep the rubber on the tarmac

Yep, as Corsa says, the disc bobbins need to be cleaned regularly otherwise brake judder can start to be felt through the brake lever

Thank Thor for that, I was worried the clunk was something falling off!
