Repairing the RSV

V

V_senna

Right I thought i'd show everyone whats happening with my RSV, couple of crashes later I've stripped the fairings off, to see what I can salvage.

First off I bought half a bellypan but it was off the R model so came with a white stripe on it as oppose to the nasty grey, so I was going to strip the other side off when I thought i'd give this a punt,

I simply masked it off and sanded it down, underneath was white, took 10-15 minutes to do, its flat but doubt anyone will notice once its on the bike :thumbup

Also repaired the crack near the mirror on the front fairing, sanded, primed, sanded again

And on goes lots and lots of silky satin black :biggrin

Actually found it really strange to spray with satin black, it goes really glossy when its wet, and as it starts to dry, certain areas go dull and I thought fook i'll have to do it again, when eventually it all dulls down to the proper satin finish :eatcorn

more to come when a few more bits arrive.

Please can you both PM me your addresses?

I need to send you my belly pan as the git that had it before me painted it with some paint that rinses off when you apply water. I now have a lovely belly pan that has many shades of black and yellow primer.

Yet another job to add to the ever growing list!!

And how did you repair the crack on the front fairing??

bit of Loctite Plastic weld, apply generously as its not difficult to rub down, so once the crack is filled and hardened, sand it down so its flush with the rest of the fairing, prime it and away you go :thumbup

just got home from work and it looks gawjus, its all dry now, will take about a week for the decals to arrive.

I am just gonna play with it and keep it as spare, things tend to happen:
Ice and vans.
Where can I find that loctite pastic welder?

not really an update, but i've just done the chain and sprockets, took a good 2 hours, mostly to clean inside the sprocket cover, covered in black gunky chain lube.

will get some more pictures soon.

Maplins do it, cant actually find a link for it, but maplins is where i got from, all the best.

You mean Maplins the electrical store?

Yeh, you can get similar 2 part epoxy glues from car shops, or halfords, look for bumper crack repair glues etc.

Righty, Gave it a quick once over to see if there was any other bits damaged from the crash, the tank is covered in tiny gravel chippings, which I didn't notice before, but its not too bad so i'll leave that until I find another tank.

Changed the gearing from 17/42T to 15/44T, didnt bother cleaning anything yet as I'll be jet washing it to get all the sand/dust out of it anyway.
