im going to replace my sparkies today - anyone got any tips?? are they as easy to get to as the manual suggests (ie just lift tank).

Thanks in advance

should be really easy, only problem you might have is the forward ones but i dout it.

Rember to check that the new ones are working before fitting them. Best way is to stick the HT lead on then put the plug on your toung, and crank the bike over. If you feel a slight tingel then fit them to the bike :thumbup

Dolestar, yes they are very straight forward to do. Lift the tank and remove the airbox completely. Be carefull of the throttle body intakes though, make sure nothing goes down there. You'll need the obvious things like the correct plug spanner, extension bar, torque wrench etc....

Remove the plug caps and make sure there is no obvious debrit in the spark plug recess like small stones etc. Do this before removing the spark plugs.

Be carefull not to cross thread the new spark plugs when fitting the new ones, just spend a little time getting them started on the thread, then torque them up to the correct specs and refit the leads and airbox :thumbup

cheers legs - i havent got a torque wrench - but the manual says to hand tighten them and then give a half turn with the supplied spanner - so hopefully that'll do!

Oh that is so true.

Anyway no problems providing you take your airbox off completely. I did mine recently. I didn't check using Rene's tip though. Guess I was lucky.

warning do not test plug on your tongue

all that happens is you get the plug wet and it makes it hard to start.please use a drier part of your body to test plugs :thumbup

Thanks for the info guys. Not sure about the tounge though, worried the wife will find me next to the beast paws up. As for body parts I'LL use the old faithful, who might I say never lets me down, the old fella! He's long enough to test both sparkies at once. Though the mrs might not like that either, might be out of action for weeks. Serriously though, can you really test the plugs this way.
