Hi folks, I have owned a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 for the last four years. Great bike, but I fancy a change. I am thinking of going for an RSV 1000. How does the reliability compare to the Jap sports bikes?

Well I,ve had mine just over 2wks. The guys at The Rocket Center (Blackburn) advised me to buy an optimate for the battery because they suffer from a lot of battery drain. They also say when starting keep cranking until the engine is fully running, this is to avoid constant ware on the sprag clutch (If you only flick the starter and the engine does,nt start the theory is the compression forces the starter to turn backwards, which could damage the sprag clutch). Apart from that they are pretty reliable.

They could be talking Bollocks, but I am sure there are more experienced owners on here to give you advice.

I,ve just changed from a 2001 fireblade, I have owned most of the jap sports bikes and found the RSV1000 a much more enjoyable ride which ouses confidence and really gives you the grin factor !!! Sure in a straight line they may come past me, but when it comes to the twisty,s its bye bye...

Howdy, not had any probs at all,had the bike about a year also just let me mention build quality, i too have had quite a few jap bikes my last two were Honda and i have always raved on about honda's good build quality but i gotta say my 04 rsvr is as good if not better than the honda's,so get yerself a Vtwin monster dont think i could go back to the fours...:thumbup

Get yerself V-Twinned up, I've also come from Jap in line 4 world and cannot believe the grunt and cornering ability of these beasts...You know it makes sense!!!

My 2002 runs like a bag a *****, wouldnt bother buyin one if i were you............:lol:lol only jokin, put that gixxer in a skip and step over to the real deal, incredible torque, handlin and reliability, expensive services cause its italian is a myth too, be brave and make the change :thumbup:thumbup:biggrin

once you experienced the mille , i don't know anyone who has returned to il4's just don't be misled thinking your gixxer is miles faster , it just feels faster because of the way the mille delivers its power without the scream...and the first 3 gears are close ratio on the milster! never have a problem embarrassing the japs:thumbup:devious

hello ,i have had 2 problems in the 6 months of owning
First is the brown connector problem which is a common fault ,just rip it out and solder the wires together
Second was the alarm ,you would start the bike and it would rev up to 4thousand and idle at that speed and wouldnt drop below ,very frighteneing on one of these ,nut i had a blade that had problems with the alarm so i just remove them straight away ,these days if some little scroat fancies your bike then 9 times out of ten they will have it away little fockers

Im having a problem right now ... lol. my 3rd since owning the bike. All problems were created by me .. I stunt the bike ALOT! I came from the GSXR too, I traded it for this. I had a problem as I wheelied the bike and put it down hard by accident, a hose came off inside the tank. (reattatched and was ready to go) Then, I use my back brake alot with wheelies (obviously) so I ended up somehow blowing my rear brake assembly. Now I know this isn't for this post, but Im in distress, my fellow RSV riders. I have an 04 Factory, I was pulling a wheelie on the express way, a turn came up so I hit back break harder than I should have and "Bam" the bike comes down hard. It cuts off, so I pulled to the side and tried to start it ... it starts, then just slowly dies off. I start it about 10 times does the same thing. I give it a lil gas ... it cuts immidiately! I took both ferings off to check for ruptured hoses, broken gaskets, loose wires ... nothing ... all intact. Can anyone please help with this problem if you know anything. The closest shop to work on this bike is very far.

hi if you go to another site aprilia.me ask for a guy called fusebox in the title and he will probably be able to help he realy is a top guy:thumbup

hey just think about once you get rid of ur gsxr :thatsgay that could be your new toilet :thumbup

be a man and step over to the mille :biggrin

get a white one there fastest :devious

I am having reliablity issues with riding mine...

The weather is never nice enough to have a good run out and not get p*ssed on!

Ah but thats an act of god, not an act of italian incomputence, may i suggest you burn a church to vent your anger :mad1:mad1:lol:lol:lol

I aint that technically minded but did hear that pullin wheelies on a mille throws oil into the back cylinder, dont know if thats anythin to do with ya problems :dunno not much help am i:biggrin:eatcorn

what is a tilt switch? And thanks alot lil1uk, im checking on that. ya know maybe I should learn how to stunt on a not so exotic bike ... lol.

Tilt switch (Inclination sensor) is located just above the battery.....in an event of the bike falling over it cuts the engine.......it may be sticky....its sounds like a ball bearing in a black box if you wiggle it....:biggrin

I found it "Battlebiker" and "Carbon Kid"! Thanks so much for the help my RSV brothers ... but it was INSIDE the tank. The rubber hose that goes from the fuel barrel in the tank and to the pump reservoir split. Im guessing from over revv of 1st gear wheelies. I need to learn how to wheelie with the clutch. I see it brings the bike up at such a lower rpm and speed. If anyone is familiar with this on the RSVR please tell me. Thanks for all you guys help!

Thanks for the responses. It all sounds pretty positive, so I will probably go ahead and get a Mille. Just in case I ever need to know, where is the problem brown connector situated?

If you're getting a brand new one, it's right behind the RF fairing. If it's an 04 or 05 (I think), it's right behind the RF fairing and behind the coolant reservior bottle.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
