Rear Subframe

Hey guys

I am new here. I just went out and got a 2000 RSVR on the weekend. Very sweet machine, I tell you what. I am pretty damn happy about the purchase. Went up from a ZX-9R...what a difference....this thing actually wants to go into corners!!!

Back to business...they guy that i bought it from had a rear seat, grab rail and rear pegs fitted, so i just assumed it must have had a subframe conversion from an standard RSV. After getting it home and starting to think how I'm gonna cart my mrs around, i opened the rear cowl up and realised that the subframe is still the original RSVR subframe which only goes a couple of inches past the rider seat!! Anyway, I have read a couple of posts and i think all i need is a rear subframe from a RSV 1000 and that should do the trick.

Does anyone have one of these for sale? And also, does anyone have any advice on how to do the changeover??

Any help would be great.

Cheers
JT

its just a case of working slowly and methodical, you need the tank off,it took me a few hours ...quite easy ..just make a note of where all the relays etc go ...you may need a new bracket ..at the moment theres a bracket that holds the rear lock in place..you can cut this down to fit or buy a new one (£10ish)..the 4 bolts holding the subframe on may be torqued quite high and need a bar for extra leverage...keep your eyes open on ebay bargains do come up...i bought 2 dual seat subframes for 25quid each.....sold one for £50 so they are out there...just a thought ...has someone drilled and tapped the left side to fit the rear peg as single seat subframes do not have bolt holes there?

good luck

Thanks mate. Yeah, it does sound quite involving!! I will keep a look out on ebay and thanks for the heads up on the rear lock bracket. I'll keep an eye out for one of those as well. Hopefully someone here has one that I can buy though.

Cheers

Depending on where you are located and if all parts are a direct swap I maybe able to offer a solution , I have a twinseat subframe (no rear seat).
I will never take a pillon so we could swap, but it would be dependant on all parts being a direct swap.

Would this help at all ?

If Kiwi's idea doesn't suit you, I have one for sale. PM me for details.

I am in London (Watford). If you are somewhere in the area, we could do a direct swap. That would work really well for me.

Let me know

If by rear lock you are talking about the seat pod/pad lock at the rear, you don't need to buy a new one. The one fitted with the single subframes just needs taking apart and reassembling in a different manner to work on a dual subframe. Everything swaps straight over, so the dual frame interchanges with single frame with nothing additional required.......except the pillion footrest hangers and the seat pad of course :D

hi the lock is the same but the bracket is slightly different ,thinking about it ,i modified mine by chopping the ends off,....see the aprilia parts list..2 separate brackets listed
