Just got back from first ride on my MY06 and noticed rear brake is not very good, no big deal as don't really use it that much. Is this a common problem or is a problem at all ?. Any tips please ....

By the bike is totally different from anything I've ridden before, handling is incredible and I love the power delivery .. still grinning.

Welcome to the forum. :thumbup

You can get a heat shield to protect the rear master cylinder or invest in a set of rear sets that relocate it away from the exhaust/engine.

Personally the rear sets option would be my choice but the cost differential is quite considerable. £6.00 - £10.00 for the heat shield or £200.00 - £400.00 for the rear sets.

Hey Clive, the wifes watching x-factor so I'm ferkin bored :roll

anyways thought I'd look around for the brake bleeding procedure for you this post explains it, but as amb said the newer RSV's rear brake MC's are prone to overheating (this is just what I've read and not experience as I have the genI mille). Apparently the heat transfer from the engine overheats the MC and effectively boils the brake fluid so the more permanent fix would be a set of aftermarket rearsets that re-locate the MC to mount onto the rearset itself and the Gilles seem to be the rearset of choice - there are a few others but I don't know which of those relocate the MC. The other option again as amb has suggested is the heat shield (I've read only one report on them and the guy reckoned it hadn't really helped and it was due to the fact that it's metal or alloy (I forget which) and it mounts on the same mounting points as the MC and thus the heat transferance had not been eliminated - but thats one report right! and of course you rarely hear of the success stories, however that's where this site is usually quite different - the guys and girl are very informative - anyways I digress, the cheaper shield has got to be worth a punt first.
