My rear brake is basically non existant, pads look ok etc but there is alot of movement in the spring on the pedal. I've had 2 other rsv owners tell me the rear brakes are just crap anyway, but I expect something to be there. Any common mods that people do so they have a rear brake again?? Cheers

Mate thinking these only have a front brake is the best solution but if you use the search and have a look around on this forum theres loads of different examples on what to do.....:thumbup

Have a word with Griff at Aprilia performance. i know he's just fitted aload of new rear sets that relocate the master cyclinder behind the heel gaurd.

I bought the Gilles but are quite expensive which also relocates the master cylinder, but after a week it went all poo on me so bought a new Brembo cylinder off emoto for 30 quid and now its how it should be.

Griff's No 01827 285500

try a search on apriliaforum.com there is a thread about hanging a brick off the pedal for 24 hours among other things(no i'm not taking the piss!!) apparently it sorts out the problem?. Not sure how but hope it helps!

cheers Dave

The rear brake on the 2004 MY on is crap and you need to relocate the master cylinder or fit a heat shield.

The older RSV's well my rear brake is **** hot, just had loads of air trapped in it. Follow the bleeding method in the 'How To' section and you'll have flat spots on your rear tyre faster than you can say 'Jack Rabbit'.

The thing I did with mine when I buggered the master was bled the bloody thing about 1000 times using 4 litres of fluid and once I had a rear brake I hung a paint pot over night on the rear brake to release more air. in the morning the rear brake was tops! 2000 miles later crap brake again so did it all again but this time fitted a heat sheild from RSVR.net, 3k miles later and its still tops :)

I use a bag of ceramic wall tiles in a carrier bag hung off the pedal - works a treat.

I have tried ceramic tiles in a carrier bag with good results - but after a long period of research have found that 14 average size cucumbers work far better (hung in a bag as per the tiles). I dont really understand this - is this because brake fluid is hydroscopic and cucumbers are 99% water?

I await the technical boffins views?

Paul

Will an aldi's bag be ok :dunno or should i go for a quality marks & spencer one :confused

p.s..what colour ceramic tiles :dunno

Come on guys use your loaf "Literally".

You need to hang 15 crusty loafs of bread as they absorb the water in the atmos of you garage and de humidify your fluid.

but the best bit is you then take the soggy loafs and make a bread and butter pudding for dinner. that way it sorts the brake and there is no waste as you eat it afterwards.

If you use the bread with the seeds on top the crust makes excellent sintered pads. :devious

Don't say i don't ever do you lot any favours. :biggrin

But DONT use those with poppy seeds unless you want the rear rim polished , the sand blasting effect is amazing

can i use a hedgehog loaf or is that just plain dim ?????

Hedgehog loaf is just about acceptable but steer clear of nimble as it's so light your bike might float and it won't put any pressure on the pedal.

Agree with Kiwi about poppy seed type bread as it will get stuck in your mates teeth as he follows you.
That and the Talaban might try and cultivate your bike for gun money.
