rear brake

i have been ride the bike all week and i have found that the rear brake is crap with no stopping in it at all is this a common thing with aprilias or do i need to change my pads

What year? the newer shape (03.9) onwards has just had a 'recall' from Mr Aprilia stating that there is not a fault but the 'sponginess' (or lack of rear brake) is down to incorrect maintenance....(Mmmm, if you say so...). You will get a letter if it's the newer shape BUT will only be a temporary cure. There are loads of threads on here about the rear brake including fixes...have a look, but personally I only need a rear brake for an MOT!!!! All the best!:devious

I was talking to a proper road racer, an aquaintance of mine, an he told me that he never uses the rear brakes in any of his bikes. Fronts and engine braking is all you need, he says.
 
Rear brake is very handy for hill starts, any riding on looses surfaces, steadying the bike as you approach junctions, i don't use it for anything other than these places and mine is superb:thumbup

A bit of work, and thanks to technical help and assistance from Badger and rs3mille :devious and mine is now awesome and better than its ever been :thumbup
