Rear brake M/C knackered

My rear brake lever bottomed out today - CANNOT get the ******* thing bled and working again, just refuses to pressure up, piece of ****.
Is there a different master cylder off annother make of bike that will fit the mounting holes that actually functions reliably?
Failing that, any advice on where i can get a new one at a good price?
Cheers, Chris

What happened, did it just fail during use or have you opened up the system and got an air lock?

I had air stuck in mine and it was a complete ******* to get out, had to wiggle the lever whilst injecting fluid in to the circuit to get rid of it. Took flipping ages but managed it in the end.

I havent opened anything on the rear brake to let any air in.
I pressed it at a road end and it bottomed out.
It wont even pump to bleed, i can push the lever loads and just not get any fluid movement.

It sounds like the actual master cylinder that's knackered. Either that or there is a massive air bubble in there somehow.

Mine was working nicely until I took the rear wheel out for tyre to be fitted. Now the lever goes full travel with gertually nothing happening on the rear brake. It's a ***** as I use the rear for hill starts and inclined junctions etc.

mine did that but the lever came back up. I've now bled it back up. The fluid that came out was like honey. I've never had a bike that went through fluid like this! I wouldn't mine but i hardly use the brakes!

Hang in there - you are not alone. I am equally unhappy.

Try not to let it spoil the enjoyment/love affair of the bike.

Just been out and bled it again and got it to pressure up some only to find out that when pressed down against pressure the fluid is forcing its way past the piston to the outside, so its shagged.
I have a 3 day weekend this weekend so this is taking the piss, no bike :angry
So i need a new master cylinder.
Is there a better master cylinder off annother make of bike that fits, like fireblade or somthing?
Where can i find a new original master cylinder at a decent price?
Cheers,Chris.

I've just broken my 11k miles 03 rsvr. If you fancy the one of mine and pay me tonight, I can have it in the post in the morning.

I think i might take a chance and buy one like this LInk to FleABay and change the connection for the lever over. Its servicable aswell.

Thats nearly £24 on something that might not fit. i think i'd be having gaz's knowing it was the correct one :eatcorn

let us know if it fits tho', always good to have parts that fit from other brands i.e cbr sidestands, bmw sprags etc :)

its a shame that even on there last rsv models aprilia / brembo have not sorted the problem - ive bled min several times now its redundant - if i had the cash id get rid of rear brake and get a thumb brake for what its worth for for show than practicality

chris

once you get it sorted you can always heat wrap the exhaust under the m/c as i did . it used to fade loads but since doing that its been wheel locking good for 2500 mls so far ......

rear brake problem

Hi guys, i was jugglin around and found this thread about the `infamous` rear brake problem, extensively treated in several other italian forums.
Im from Italy an got a friend of mine working for a local Aprilia reseller so i have the chanche to get a lot of unofficial info directly form the Aprilia factory, that id like to share with u.
I have a 2005 rsv and have had a lot of headaches with this rear brake, as every other rsv owner.
I tried to fix it but was able only to make it work for a month, forcing the air out of the fluid circuit, holding the caliper higher than the pump.
The interesting thing is that Brembo actually fixed the problem giving the method to the aprilia resellers.. but they seems not to care about that.
The solution is to pull out the plastic joint of the pump (the one with the rubber tube going to the fluid reservoir )with two opposing flat screwdriver, and to enlarge the hole of both sides of the joint with a drill spike of exactly 4,5mm.
Then , reassembly all and change all the fluid keeping the caliper as high as you can over the pump level, using a lot of DOT4 to be sure that is no air left.
this is the fifth time i do this, but the first after the joint mod, and now the rear brake works like a charm, and it is absolutely not gradually loosing as it use to do the other times.
I hope it will hold, an if you are desperate as was I, you can try also this before to spend money changing the whole pump.
happy to help you,
Rafz
