hi all real scary moment to day going round a long left turn and the rear brake locked on its only the look of god I stayed on back pads melted disc is blue and now warped no fluid leak so hope the calliper seals and master cylinder seals are ok I are at a loss what caused it all I can think of is brake adjusted to tight on pedal ore to much fluid any one got any ideas :bawling

aye seized pistons ah wid say. Think where is sat, awe the ***** o the day gets in there and if ye dinnae look efter it then its a real possibility. Particularly if yer pads are well worn and the pistons are pushed well oot tae begin wi.

Glad ye kept it shiny side up tho ...phew, nae every day ye will hear someone sayin that aboot a Tuono rear brake !

cheers guys both pistons move freely with one finger pushing them back in bikes a 04 with 6000 miles on clock still on original brembo pads witch where in good order I only checked brake yesterday when I had wheel of to change sprocket is it possible for the fluid to expand with heat and force the brake pads out just orderd new disc and pads butt want to know what problem is so it don't happen again cheers for imput

Well, if the pads were fine when you took the wheel off and the disk is blue & the pistons are free i would look at how you refit the wheel. Spacers in the rite place ?

If it was binding that bad i would have thought you woukd have noticed when riding... ?

its possible for fluid to expand and that's why the fluid res isn't filled to the top to allow for expansion, is the piston in the master cylinder returning freely ?

I did have the back brake set so there wasn't much play because I thought there was to much play and the brake was crap there is no back brake at all after it seized the pedal went down to the stop with no feel and the master cylinder was real hot had done 21mile to hemsley all was fine then set of for Whitby half way there it just started ime at a los and to be honest a bitt nippy arsed now till I know what it is

I did notice as soon as it started binding then it just stopped the wheel it all happened that fast is there only the two spacers one on each side of wheel then the brake bracket

if I was a gambling man I would say taking the slack out of the brake has but constant pressure on the master cylinder piston and fooked it

be a bitt gutted if master cylinder is fooked butt at least I know :dunno

mmmm.....above suggestion sounds plausible noo ye say pistons were tickety bo. Ah guess a combination o a lack o free play and mibbe a hi oil level allied wi the oil expanding could certainly lead to a binding brake. Still funny how it came on so quick though.

There was a lad on here donks ago, BAtfastard I think it was, had a rear seize up on him. Ripped the disc to bits literally off the mount bolts. Think it was on a track day or something. Mibbe some o the other auld lags on here will mind o that. The thread will be lost now as it was on the orginial TZ which went **** up.

yes the oil level was may be a smidge above max I all was check before any ride out

rear brake all sorted now new disc pads break calliper seals and all bled in with a 3mm air gap between push rod and master cylinder piston happy days :thumbup

I'm in Australia, Brembo agent here does not do seal kits, only pads & discs.
Where to buy seals? Aug 2003 Tuono.

Use a syringe to bleed rear brakes, easy and quick. Make sure you got enough play - discs are self adjusting so, could be something else as well. also check your pad retaining clips haven't bent and that the pins are free and easy (ooer Mrs)

Glad you made it !
