Race Training Schools

Hi Guys,

i am keen to do a race school track day. however it is prooving difficult to find a good one????

i dont want to ride my pride and joy (05 Mille) round the track as it is worth too much to me if i bin it or someone wipes me out. so that rules a normal track day out.

i would like to do some proper race training, but like i said before these seem to be quite rare.

i looked into the Ron Haslem school at Silverstone, but it seems a bit crap for what money you hand over. I rang them up and they said for close to £300 you only get 3, 15minute track sessions and the rest of it is classroom work, as there are around 150 people there throughout the day. This to me is outragous, surely there is better value for money out there, where you get more track time and one to one, or even one to two tuition.

'Mick Boddice' at Darley Moor, seems to be a dead end and the 'California Superbike School' at Silverstone is £800.

Can anyone advise me on this or has anyone been on any race school's that have been a good, worth the money experience??????

i wait for your replies anciously as the missus is gonna treat me for my birthday this month.

i look forward to reading your replies.

Alex

I would rethink the trackday option m8 you have different sessions for different abilities so there wont be rossi wannabe's in the begginer session plus allot of tracks do newcommer nights for begginers and they have racers on the sidelines to give help and advice thats where i started and the rest is up to you once you get over the buzz you just take it easy learning as you go ,kit your bike out with engine covers and race fairing and take off all the road **** and do trackdays i't'll cost less than the superbike school day,at the end of the day m8 why buy an aprilia if you don't use it where it was designed for go for it you won't regret it m8 if you have any questions ask away m8......

my mate used to do 1 to 1 tuition on trackdays..he was a riding instructor for cbt and full access courses but is ex uk champ on lc's and has raced a few other things notably the manxgp on an SP1,hm racing used to use him as a test rider ( he's a hero of mine i'm glad to say)

this may be worth looking into on a trackday forum see if anybody is willing to show you some racecraft and hire a bike from one of the trackday companies..you may find this more fulfilling/beneficial and better value for money

Alex, if you have to "borrow" a bike from a school it will always cost alot. I'm just recently back from Silverstone doing level 1 CSS and was brilliant. There were two fallers (both their own fault) and no other incidents. You are never at full pace and the instructors are on the ball with anyone taking the piss.......they will be taken off track!

It was a great day, 5 x 20 minute track sessions with classroom inbetween.............hard day believe me but learnt loads!!!!

Andi does that mean on the next trackday at knockhill youll be leading the way lol always fancied css ive read twist of the wrist 2 a few times and watched the dvd ,the man is a legend. when's the next trackday???????

hi bud ,why dont you save up some loot and buy yourself a mille track bike more than a few out there for sale £1500-2000 will get you kitted out for the treat of your life mate and keep yer good`in nice for the sunday run. better still get a track mille with a day time mot for even more fun .i love the b roads and anywhere with plenty of bendy bits thats my track . not sure if i would like going round and round the same track all day just to see how fast you can go sounds dull i think i would rather hit the back roads and play there much more fun ,who needs a guy to show you when and how to take a bend and need to pay him to lol .im not a top speed kinda guy i just like the mille for the low speed fun. the long high speed straights make me back off but im always in the mirror in the twisties . ask your local track hero to follow you on your bit of road you know well and see if he can keep up with you "i bet he cant" .

the muirkirk road is just 4 miles up the road from me and its 10 miles long and great fun .not sure what i have on for sunday but im up for a blast anywhere thats sunny or dry at least if her indoors dont need me lol. some day we could go ooot on my local blast i take you to peebles then marys loch then moffat and biggar then through lanark then doon the douglas road to muirkirk then back to mine for a coffee lol theres loads of good roads dooon here .but as i said we can go anywhere you fancy mate i dont mind .allways liked tyndrum myself its a good place when its sunny

I think you're underestimating the track time aspect. I think you'll find on the Haslam days you get more than enough track time. The classroom sessions are just as important. It's up to you whether you want to learn properly. Some people prefer to learn by doing though I guess.

im not saying its a bad thing some guy showing you how to take corners faster learning you how to ride your bike but its not for me i like that hard way i would call it, youve got to find your own safe limits first and the back roads is the place to do it :) :devious:thumbup riding on a track just aint the same as we only have 1 lane on our roads cross that lane and you could die ,ive had a few close calls and been very lucky but its kept in my head for the future and try not to do it again but **** happens out there not always our fault though

I see your point m8 but, on track you know for certain theres nowt on the road/track, on the road are you sure on the next bend you fling it into hasn't got deisel on it or have you been lucky so far, then on the next bend on the road do you know there wont be a car on your side, on track you can use both sides of the road so to speak ,on track if you crash you can be certain 9 times out of 10 its you thats caused it by lack of skill on the road 9 times out of 10 its someone elses fault, these bikes we buy are more and more like race bikes so why tie them up wi road laws (okay not all the laws are followed)to fully reach the limits of your bike as safely as can be expected from motorsport why make it harder by adding other obsticles into the mix, the less you have to think about the faster you can go .......just my thoughts on why track beats road for me i'm never going to stop road riding but when it comes to pushing the limits the road is just to dangerous........

id stayed away from trackdays for same reasons (someone will take me off) but after doing about 10 at different tracks and with no moments!!!! i would defo recomend them and most events have instruckters who will do 1 to 1 free of charge. you lern a **** load about your bike and your own riding abilitys. im out again in two weeks and cant wait.

I did all four levels of CSS and thought it was fantastic. Did them all on my GSXR1000K6 and never got close to binning it. They even made us ride Level 1 in the pouring rain with dry tires and still no one went off track. It is a very good programme and you will learn heaps from it. I was there with Dan Linfoot and Micheal Neeves, both experienced racers who had to go through all the levels just like the rest of us. They thought it was worth it too. Cheers
