hi,

fitted a race can of unknown make to my 12000 mile 03 rsv, 200 miles later the engine blow. (u can see the rear piston through the inlet manifold) is it just bad luck or have I missed something. have fitted race cans to other bikes with no ill effects are RSV@s any differant?

Unlikely to be the can. Some can make the bike a bit lean but by far the most common cause of engine failure on the rsv (other than wear and tear) is from over revving on downshifts. They really do not like it and valves hit pistons or shell bearing fail on the crankshaft.

The rev limiter cannot protect the motor on downshifts because the revs are controlled by wheel speed not anything controllable by fuel or ignition cuts.
