Just wondering if anyone has used one with an rsv, any issues with with the rear header melting it etc?

I used one on my 675 and exhaust was close. Seemed to keep the heat from getting into shock. And no problem with it getting melted.

Just been having a look at the 675. The clearnace looks like it's a good inch or so, definately more than my 2000 R model has. I'd fit it and see how it goes, but it'd be a shame to waste £20 if it got melted.

Yeah might be the way forward, unfortunately think I'll need to do the whole system. Had some weird effects just wrapping part of it last time, caused the heat to radiate more from close to the cylinder.

You DO realise that the dampening action of a shock absorber works by converting linear motion/energy to heat. If that heat is unable to dissipate, say for instance the shock was wrapped up or insulated, the dampening action would be comprimised.
If you are worried about corrosion etc, then fit a decent hugger, coat liberally with ACF50, and clean regularly.
Also, it's not the shock you should be overly concerned about, if anything IS going to fail, it will be your dogbone link bearings.

I melted one on my bike. Nooj swears he hasn't had any problems with any customers on rsv's and reckons I must have put it on wrongly. I like the bloke so I'm not going to argue with him, but he's wrong. I wasn't happy and didn't get much customer service. That was before they were bought out by R&G though.

Perhaps, perhaps, it might be because I ride my bike differently to most rsv owners. I do sit in traffic on the commute and the bike goes up near triple figures regularly on the commute which I do every day, I think that was before I put the jester rear on. Who knows, they weren't interested in finding out so I lobbed it and wouldn't put one on any bike.

Cheers bud, that's the kind of input I was after. I might see if it'll fit my TLR or flog it to a mate, got given it as a present for helping someone fit a new shock so no great loss if it doesn't get used.

Thanks for the input but your response wasn't what I was asking. I was asking if anyone had melted one, or had problems with the heat from the exhaust.

Your post has irked me slightly as you're talking to me like I know nothing, when the truth is that I've worked with bikes for years including rebuilding shocks / forks. Please remember that just because someone has a low post count, it doesn't mean that they have nothing between the ears.

Mate I purchased one last year the r&g one,5 mins on the bike it started to melt at the top and smoke also told I put it on wrong I ain't no muppet and its not rocket science, basically it's no good on the Mille neoprene and foam don't react we'll to a red hot exhaust 2 inches away ,save your money :)

Sorry for that....however, this is an internet forum, and I thought the idea was for everybody to 'pitch in' until a question or problem is solved? You don't always get the answer you want.....life's like that.

Specifically please, how am I talking to you 'like you know nothing'? Where in my post have I inferred you 'know nothing'?
My post was made in good faith, with no intention to upset or offend. I've re-read it a few times and I'm still unsure why you took exception to it.
Perhaps on your next post you might like to list your experience or qualifications so that we don't run the risk of 'irking' you.

I'm stuggling here to find any connection between postcount and intelligence

Hmmm, that's interesting. Yeah, my exhaust is so hot it's started to brown one of the white plastic pipe clips (over a period of 11 years and 55000 miles), it's standard routing, not a 2-2 or anything like that. It'd be nice for them to admit they made a mistake and it just doesn't work on the Mille.
