is there any difference between the pillion seat on a 98-00 mille and an 00-03? i know there are a few subtle differences between the bikes, but i need to know if an 00-03 pillion seat will fit a 98-00 subframe. any knowledge on this subject would be greatly recieved...... tt

all pillion seats will fit all subframes but you must have the cooresponding years bodywork to match
so 98-00 seat = 98-00 bodywork
01-02 seat = 01-02 bodywork
03-04 seat = 03-04 bodywork
i know i have been in pillion seat hell before...the above sounds obvious but a couple of the seats look nearly the same and even fit with differing bodywork but never feel very safe ..i.e. they wobble about a lot

ok dave, keep me posted, i've already sourced the pegs, but i will definatly have the seat off you. and if your thinking of going down the carbon fibre route, i've seen a nice cowl that will fit on ebay....

I've seen them, too, but the base looks different to my seat. Perhaps it's a case of what Mark was talking about with the differences between the years. Do you know whether anyone has tried one of the CF cowls on a 2000?

i don't know anyone who has personally, but the item i'm watching specifically says its for 98-00 mille only. the one im watching is item number 270638411689

Yep - That's defo a carbon cowl for a 1998-2000 RSV, no question. As far as the actual seat goes...........
Check with the seller if they dont have a picture they can show you if you are buying one off eBay. Some sellers dont realise there was a difference in the seat between model years, especially those sellers who are breaking a bike they didn't originally own, for spares.

You should be looking at paying @£50-£65+postage for one, thats about the going rate. Brand new from a dealer, its £104 for the saddle and £50 ( last time I checked ) for the saddle base that it mounts to!!!.

quick glance guide ..00-98 seat more pointy rear end as above the 01-02 seats have a squared off rear ..nots seen a late 03 mille seat up close but thats def. different as well
i did have a spare full rear kit of seat / pegs / subframe but swapped them for a set of falco headers and akrapovic cans
