lads another quick question if i may i did ask this in my other topic but werent sure if you would see it

With motorbikes being partially weekend toys hence not much use and even less through the winter is it a common cause to get condensation in the oil? obviously it will clear as you ride it same as a car but none the less is it a common apperance
:confused

if some one was to have condensation in the oil tank how long would it take to clear its self

cheers lads

Who knows :dunno never had or seen that problem MilleBoy, what do you mean by condensation? A tiny bit of water on the inside of the tank seen on the sight tube? Wouldn't worry too much if the bikes not been used for a while. Just give the bike a good run to clear it.

Guiness ( oil and water mix ) inside the oil tank would indicate a serious problem however

legs is right it would be a problem, but if its just small specs of water on the tube etc its not a problem, its just science!

Possibly head gasket yes, if there is guiness present in the oil tank, somehow enough water has mixed with the oil to produce the guiness type residue. The question is "where has the water come from?". It could be a head gasket failure,it could be a water pump seal problem. Further investigation and diagnosis would be needed.

I've not read of a head gasking failing on these engines though, they're pretty much bullet proof mechanically if looked after. Like anything though if the engine is seriously used and abused and not maintained correctly then problems do occur.

I suggest it would have to be something else that would cause a serious over heating issue to cause a head gasket to fail. Cooling fans switch inop?

As stated i doubt condensation would cause any noticable effect inside the oil tank, certainly not enough to cause any degredation of the oil.
