Questions on electrical - turn signals

I have a '02 RSV-R that I purchased used. I'm replacing the front turn signals due to a slip up on the track. The previous owner integrated the rear turn signals w/ the brake lights. I bring this up because I found something strange. I connected my new 12V lights (LED) and they didn't work.

After some trouble shooting it looks like said previous owner added an aftermarket front turn signal relay that downsteps the electrical current from 12V to 5V as measured from a multimeter at the relay and each turn signal connector. :confused (I did a quick search on the internet and couldn't even find 5V turn signals) The guys at the shop I bought the bike from didn't really believe me but they specialize in Ducs.

Does anyone know if this is a function of integrating the rear turn signals? If so, any suggestions on how to resolve this?

If it's not a function of integrating the rear signals, I was going to try changing the relay per a How To forum I saw on this sight. (CF12ANL off superbrightleds.com)

BTW - love the forum. Tons of great information. Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers

I changed all mine and they did not work so i put relay off my zx7 on and they work fine now

Jams,

You need a "wideband" LED relay if you have all 4 turn signals as LED's, because they run at very much lower voltages/lower current the standard relay wont work down to such low current draw.
You may also need to do a slight "mod" to get the dashboard turn signal indicator to work as its integrated into the system.

What defines a wideband relay? Is it a wide range of current - e.g. 0.02A - 10A?

Thanks and I will keep you posted on the resolution.
