Hi Guys,

Need a bit of advice. Only had my bike 1 week exactly and I have a puncture in my tyre. It is about an inch from the centre on the tyre.

Know it may sound like a silly question but do you buy a new tyre or repair the puncture?

I am just not sure if you increase the risk of a blow out by repairing the puncture.

Thanks for your advice

Mate a couple of use use the green slime which is good stuff i had a nail in mine took it out then took it to brands for a track day it lasted, best bet take it to a good tyre dealer they will give you some good advice there is one called essential rubber which i beleive is not far from you:thumbup

If your at all worried and dont trust these repair kits then get a new one. Tyre plugs are supposed to be good but if it's that close to the centre then I'm not sure the garage would do it anyway :dunno

Personally, I would always replace mine. For the sake of £100 on a new tyre is it worth the risk of having another blowout and potentially wrecking your bike....or worse

I would strongly suggest getting advice from a tyre specialist...but would feel happier myself changing the tyre as if it lets go at speed...you could be facing some big problems.Trust me I experienced this a few months ago and when you're steaming towards a kerb/ditch/lampost whilst attempting to scrub speed 'gently' and get the bike to turn when it doesn't want to....£95 for a new front tyre is peanuts!!!

New tyre Mate, better safe than sorry :thumbup:thumbup

If you talk to the tyre guys they don't recommend repairing a Z rated tyre and actually put ribs on the inside to stop plugs being stuck.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the advice. I got the tyre repaired but will source a new tyre and replace.

Like you say - my life is worth than £100.00.

if its a nearly new tyre and the hole is near the centre a proffessional plug should give you no bother at all.

I once had a tyre plugged an i kept thinking about it, normally when i was lets say..." making progress"...so in the end i got a new tyre,no more worries there is enough stuff to worry about when out for a blast without thinking your tyre is about to explode....:pirate

Its not the sort of thing id risk for the sake of a hundred quid, many may not agree but my lifes worth more than that, like the wise old Carpe says, enough to worry about without that on ya mind :thumbup:thumbup:biggrin

:pirateWhen I bought my bike the bloke gave me a set of "nearly new" michelins with it. There was a plug in the rear one. I kept the front but binned the one with the plug. It was painful throwing a tyre out that was so new but as the others said, its not reccomended to plug these tyres coz of the speed rating.
Potter about round town with the plugged tyre by all means but if you're gonna open her up a bit I would get a new one first.

:pirate

Gentlemen plugs these days are high quality use them adnd abuse them or do i not care about life????? like i said before i used one on a track day and it lasted??? if anyone changes a tyre with life still in it call me and i will use it:thumbup look right at the photo that is what they are for....... burn them into the ground?????

Piece of mind i guess is what its all about but i too have had 2 rear tyres repaired in the past and have had nae problems and worn them out through summer and winter :pirate

Fitted a Rennsport for 106.00 inc VAT and fitting.

I did 200 miles on them today to scrub them in.
