Hey All ... Just been lookin at the member list and by my reckoning there's about 1650 (ish) people registered on here .....

So ... How many of you have signed the e-petition against the proposed EU regs that are due to be discussed in October ?? ..

Reckon a whole lot of you have changed the exhaust on ya T, I know I have ..... New Regs .. Its Illegal
Changed ya sprockets ?? ...... New Regs ... Its illegal
Small number plate ?? check ...... Guess what ... its illegal
Airbox mods ?? check ... Yep illegal

There are pages of proposal which directly affect every one of us ... Compulsory Hi Viz sound like fun ?? .. How about random roadside emissions tests (Anyone using Map 2 ?? ) ... Buyin a brand new bike ?? ... How does random police stop, plug in laptop and then get nicked for doing 85 on the motorway a week last Tuesday sound ....

Decide to say screw the system I'll still ride ?? ... First time ya pulled with modifications .. "Sorry Sir ya bike's been modified and is therefore uninsured so we are seizing it and turning it into coke cans"

I KNOW I'VE SIGNED IT COS I WANNA GO FAST ... AND BE LOUD WHILE I'M DOING IT !!

Also check out MAG website or facebook pages for details of where to meet on 25th September for a mass sedate speed protest ride.

I've signed it. Only thing moded on my bike until being Griffed tomorrow is the exhaust though. I think if they made people use factory exhausts there'd be a bit of coring going on.

PS must be the joys of owning an older bike where u can't plug a computer into it.

PPS I think if it becomes that bad off roading will become a lot more popular. KTM please

There is a go slow protest about this being arranged by MAG on 25th September, lots of small local groups meeting up to ride at 30-40mph blocking major carriageways. Details are on www.therevcounter.com in the motorbikes forum and I presume somewhere on the MAG site.

Edit: I'll be going to this one if the weathers ok:-
Sunday, September 25 · 11:00am - 2:00pm
Meet at WALKERS CAFE and ride down the A11 to the M11 and back up for an hour or so. 45mph to 48mph. Meet at 11:00am move off at 13:00 Hours
WALKERS CAFE, MILDENHALL - Google Maps
grid ref:- 52.340588,0.535942
Barton Mills, Five Ways/S-bound: unmarked
This event is supported by West Norfolk Motorcycle Action Group. (MAG)

Bay ... Would coring a standard can still be classed as modification ?? If so then they can still use the insurance clause ... i.e. you never told us about modifications therefore you're not insured ..... On the down side this petition needs 100,000 signatures to be considered for hearing in parliament .... there were 2363 a couple of days ago ... Am pretty sure theres more bikes out there than that :)

Judge ... Cheers for the link will whack it on facebook etc ... I'm intending to do the one from 8 ball diner @ Rivenhall .....

Toad. dont really think it will ever happen though,,
Just think of how many uk companies alone it will put out of business.
Thats what the government will really look at, and at the moment they really cannot afford to see thousands more people be pushed out of work onto the dole queue.

Pinny .. Couldnt agree more with the logic ... But this is being voted on in Europe .... There have been mass demo's in France ... And some of the proposals are already compulsory in some member states ..

Toad, they are talking roadside spot checks on whole power chain, you must not modify plugs, airbox or filter, sprockets, chain exhaust, ecu. Also talking of if a product has dual usage for race/road, it is illegal. So if a triple prong spark plug is non standard but fitted to race bikes, it's now illegal on your street bike.

IIRC any new laws applied cannot be made retrospective so they will only apply to new bikes built the year the law is introduced so any mods on machinery already owned will not apply so we're quite safe for the time being.....That said the EU still sucks *** big time.....fortunately i have no plans to sell my modded bikes....except maybe change the T for a factory model

eurocraps !!! say it all toad really.
Mind you cannot really use the french as a bench mark, theyd protest about the colour of the sky if it would get them a day of work.

You only have to look at the motorcycle industry worldwide and see how many massive aftermarket firms are to see it wouldnt make sense.
And to think someone is being paid to think up these stupid laws!!

Ive signed it anyhow, you can never be too sure!!

Except in France and EU considering to, they are talking of banning bikes older than 7 years old from cities!!!!!

16-08-2011 25th Sept - Action Now! EU Hands Off Biking!

There's a raft of issues emanating from Europe that will have a profound effect on riders and the motorcycle industry generally and we must stand up. Some of them are driven by the EU Commission, like the new Type Approval and Market Surveillance Regulation that will see the introduction of compulsory ABS, the sealing of powertrains from the airbox, through the engine to the final drive (including the diameter and aspect ratio of the rear tyre), restrictions on the aftermarket industry, possible roadside checks by police or other government agencies to inspect emissions, detect owner 'tuning' and more.

There's EU-funded development of electronics to control and govern speeds through warning systems or, ultimately, actual throttle control.

Ireland plans compulsory, full sleeve day-glo jackets for riders and pillions, France is debating compulsory reflective/day-glo clothing. Will UK insurance companies start saying that because we weren't dressed in day-glo it's our own fault that an inattentive driver drove into us? MAG says the onus should not be on the victim.

France also wants to ban bikes over 7 years old from urban areas for environmental reasons! Their congestion is already terrible and putting more riders into cars that pollute terribly when they are stationary, is bonkers.

Bikes are part of the urban transport solution, not problem.

Enough! There will be a vote by the MEP committee discussing the above Regulation in the autumn. We need them to listen. They represent us. MAG and many others in the motorcycle community are negotiating hard with our own Government and our European representatives.

Join us to keep EU Hands Off Biking, it's time for Action now!.

On the 25th September you can make your voice heard. Starting from service areas across the country, we all ride at 1pm and vanish 20 minutes later. This is the first time.

Closer to the date, we will be listing all the actual start points here, on the ridersarevoters.org website and many other places. We've already got venues from Plymouth to Aberdeen on most M-ways and major trunk routes, but if you or your bike club would like to be a 'starter', contact us for co-ordinated action.
