Probs changing gear

T

TinMan

Riding the bike yesterday on her maiden voyage and she has developed a prob over the winter break. It was extremely difficult to change gear infact impossible at times, and then 2 mins later it would just slot up no prob. Anyone got an idea what it could be? :dunno Was fine when I rode it last year. It changed down ok, just going up the box which I find a bit strange as it should be the other way round! Although was fine between 1st an 2nd, but anything up from that was problematic. Just praying it aint something expensive as things are very, very tight not I've bought arressmill's spare mp slavel! :

Try bleeding the clutch master cylinder next to the clutch lever. They can get air trapped in them causing gear selection problems. Just release the bleed nipple on the master cylinder pull in clutch lever then retighten the bleed nipple. Repeat twice more. Cover the tanks and surrounding bodywork with a towel though just in case any fluid escapes.

If that doesnt help, but I think it should, you can try to change the oil for a fresh one.

Ok. Will leave it till the mpl gets here and do it all at once and keep my fingers crossed! But out of curiosity, why would that affect it going up the gear box? In essence you dont need a clutch to go up the box so why would that affect it?

I would to it before you fit the MPL clutch slave as to eliminate the potential problem, it only take a few minutes or so. If it does cure it then when you fit the MPL slave you need to be sure you've completely bled the system of air

Well that didnt work, so guessing I'm gonna have to change the fluid. What dot do you guys recommend I use as I've not ever done a hydraulic clutch before. Cheers.

dot 4 bud the same as the brakes, could put dot 5 in if u do real hard riding.
Although i would do a oil and filter change and see how that goes.
