hi all just wondered what the little red light marked max is? and what type of oil do these like, cheers,

as my max light is kicking in at about 5thou, she also give off a bit of smoke from some oil come from under the tank, so i pushed her back and she now in the shed,

i think she might be low on oil, how much do these take as i have no book,
cheers

well i not sure , how would i check? i dont have a book with it so i trying to find things out on the net, how would i reset it back to about 9thou, and would that cut the power on the bike when the max light flashes? cheers i just dont want it to go bang

The red flashing max light is the rev indictor light, it just flashes to let you know when to change gear when your nearing the engine rev limiter. It is not a rev limiter itself, just a flashing led. It's very easy to set. Best set it at 10k. The oil level is also very easy to check see the other thread on checking oil level !!

Here's a link for a 2003 owners manual - see 4th one down. Read it and there's all you need to know !

mate if it was the little red light near the rev counter, its nothing to worry about, although it shouldnt come on at 5 though.its lowest setting is 6??. its not a rev limiter,it just lets you know when to change gear.it can be set to what ever rpm you want to change gear at.sorry cant remember what buttons to press to adjust it,but im sure some one on here will let you know.as for the oil....well it may be over filled if its comming from under the tank ??.read the checking your oil thread to get some help...hopefuly its nothing bad :thumbup

well i just getting the info together then i gonna pass little man back to the women and then i be off to check and remove side panals just wondered what oil some of you people use, thank again and i hope it something small

had a few words with a nice man from scottland, <anyone know someone in the soutwest who knows what they are doind with an rsv> he said sound like someone changed the battery and not set it up, so i trying to get some oil and filter and off to change that

I had loose cam covers causing a little oil leak on the engine. Prop the tank, pull the airbox off and you should be able to tighten her up.

i ha ve ordered all my parts from SCOTT LAND i couldnt find anyone local who could help, so i got to wait now................and off to the shed to see where this oil coming from

i have found a problem, my bike had no oil in it, it also had a **** load in the airbox i cleaned the k and n and box and put it back together, so tom my oil comes so i will change the filter and what ever oil it has left and put some more in ,, will add photos of my new oil tank,,, cant belive someone sold a bike this way........................

Ston3r, not wanting to suggest anything but are you sure your bike has no oil in it. Oil in the airbox means the bike has been over filled with oil. There is a specific way to check the oil and it's easy to get it wrong unless you follow the correct procedure, hence why people over fill these bikes with oil.

Why are you changing the oil tank? Also changing the oil and oil filter is a little different to normal.

Here's a link for that. See Oil change under RSV1000mille

You need 15w50 semi synthetic motorcycle oil SG grade or higher

i have a new filter and some smytec 4 15/50 but i was warming the bike up and the oil in the clear pipe went down so i turned the bike off and dipped the oil tank, there is nothing in my steel oil tank on the l/h/s i just thinking if a bleed bolt has come off but i cant see any oil leak on/or in the belly pan.....

It is a dry sump, one pump takes it out of the tank and puts it in the engine, one pump puts it back in the tank. You need to run it to warm up and then shut it off, set it level and check the oil. The tank is probably fine, follow the link. These bikes are different to the ones we get from Japan, so go read about it prior to deciding to replace parts that may be fine.

right i dropped the oil from the sum, and changed the filter, there was 1.4 lt in the bike so i followed the links to put the right amount of oil in that is all good now, i took it out on a 35 mile trip and it`ran lovely , smashed some bloke who was on a sp1, ha ha, and on the way back i got caught in the rain for 5 min, and the bike got hot up 95c when i turned it off it was hissing and **** so i took the siide panals off to get a good look,i couldnt see anything leaking ,so i turned the bike back on and the clocks had reset them self to km, the time reset and the max light setting dropped down to 6 thou, and the rev needle bangs off the stop about 5 times then goes to 6thou, if you set it to 10 then turn the bike off and on it does the same, so i dont know what the ***** going on i gonna phone aprilia but i think this is gonna go back....... shame really as i love it just need something i dont have to play with so much, thank you all for ur help it been spot on

right the fuse was blown number 2 ing..... all sorted just have to reset everything again
