Ay up,

I'm after a bit of advice PLEASE!!

I have the blue OZ Magnesium wheels on my 05 Factory, and I have always been one to faff around and change the appearance of my steel horses BUT.... Can I get them powder coated??? ( I want to do do in bright red )

I have been warned off doing it, but surely one of you guys has done it without causing any damage in the heat process??

Any experiences in this regard will be appreciated.

The Davros.

I've had some wheels powder coated and some painted.

A couple of years ago, I had the wheels on my Ducati Multistrada powder coated. Okay, it was a good finish, but IMHO not worth the extra cost. I had my RSV's rain wheels painted and IMHO, this is a good, durable finish that incidentally provides more colour options than powder.

These were originally blue (bought from CarbonKid).

What I'm saying is that I know powder's hailed as the non plus ultra of finishes, and I too went down that road. But realsitically speaking, I don't think it's any better than a good paint job. You can damage either if you're cack-handed.

BTW OZ don't make magnesium wheels - they're either cast (cheaper and heavier) or forged (more expensive and lighter) aluminium.

BTW-2 If you do this, use angled valves. I found I couldn't get my pressure gauge in to these straight ones and had to get them replaced.

From what I have heard OZ did make and supply Mag wheel to Aprilia. IIRC the Nera was supplied with them.

Corroborated by AF1 Forum/Amauri:
"Yes they are magnesium, but they are thicker than a true racing mag wheel because they have to be DOT tested/approved for road use."
