I am looking for some feedback from you guys on the best way to go with changing the colour of my wheel rims. I have a factory and want to change from the blue colour to bright in ur face red! Now i would normally go down the route of having them bead blasted and power coated, but i have read on the AF1 site, someone saying that the very high temperature that is used to bake the power can make the alloy rims weak. I dont want to have them painted because my track bike has painted rims, and they have more chips on them than the pavement outside my local chippy!! Any thoughts would be welcome, cheers guys:dunno

Hi TINTIN

Listen, powder coat for sure. Its thicker. harder and doesnt f&%king flake of and chip when you try to attach rim tape. I have had all my bikes done this way, nothing undue to report so far. POWERCOAT wins hands down!!!! :)

HI mate mine are powder coated and i have no prob with them i am thinking of having them done again as the rim is polished and hard work to keep clean

Had my OZ's done for my track bike, beadblasted and powder coated silver all for £70.50 by a company called Bettablast, the job is superb and there is not that much heat to damage the rims, you need to remove all bearings etc., in fact here they are

Lee, My brother owns a MV Agusta Senna that has wheels like yours, as in Red spokes and silver rims. His came from MV with what looks like silver paint and then clear coat over them. He has had the bike from new (02) and done 5K miles on it and the rims look like new. Could you just have your polished alloy laqured?

You could, but IMHO the finish will always leak / blister / crack.

Every time I see a car with mirror polished wheels they look like they need attention. My wife has a VW Beetle with 18's and two of her wheels have failed and the clear coat is lifting...

I think its down to the lacquer not gripping the finish cos its sooooo smooooth...

Badger,
I called Bettablast today and they said the same price you quoted. But they also said i would need to arrange my own courier to collect them when done. Is this what you had to do?, and if so, did they pack them well enough as we know they will be thrown into the back of several vans before they get to my door!!

I just packed them myself and they used the same packaging to send them back, if you do this you can make sure yourself they are well protected. They actually posted them back to me via royal mail again.

I just sent mine via royal mail, IIRC it was £13 to send, what to do is weigh the package and check royal mails website and you can work out your carriage cost from it:thumbup
