Potential buyer...

Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of advice with buying an RSV4, I thought here would be the best place to ask :thumbup

I don't want to buy a spankers new model but what in your opinion is the best year to go for, revisions etc?

What faults should I be aware of? And how efficient is the part sourcing/availability?

I have taken a 2010 model out for a 30 min test run and found it to be a pretty awesome piece of kit, I had a crossplane R1 and IMO it is everything the R1 should have been, never felt that I had to slip the clutch more doing simple roadcraft tasks. The RSV4 felt good.

What mods transform the bike? I'm technically quite capable and have done a lot of tuning to my current bike so modifying it in whatever form will be on the agenda if it improves things.

It depends what you want it for. I have had a 2011 RSV4R for 2 years now. I don't feel I am missing out on not having APRC. My blades didn't have them so ....
My advice would be buy on condition alone. Apart from the APRC they are pretty much the same bike 2009 to 2014.
White is the best colour

If using for the track maybe worth the extra for aprc or if you are particularly cackhanded with the throttle.
They seem to fall out of bed when new. I paid 8.5 for mine with 2.5k miles on it and 2 yrs old. But its worth about the same today at 4 yrs and 7k miles

They are sensitive to tyres. I use roadsmarts as I commute on it.
I've had nothing go wrong except the speedo froze once. Switch off and on cured it.
They can sound quite rattly but a service fixed mine.
The speedo can be quite hard to see in bright sunlight so I fitted a tinted screen for 30 quid from dcs. Worked great and good quality plus UK product.
Austin racing cans sound even better than the standard can but are loud !

Excellent, thanks for the info there, I think I'm going to go for a post 2011 APRC after one of my friends who owns one advised me!

Im using 2CT's at the moment on the R1 and I like them, but I know different bikes like different tyres, I heard Pirellis work well on the Aprilias..

Tyres are a bit subjective. It had bridgestones on when I got it but I think the Dunlop's are better.
