Just been out on the bike (01 mille) and got abut 20 miles in and it just cut out. (Clocks stayed on soit seemed like there was no ignition) also wouldnt bump while i was coasting along. When i pulled over, i turned the ignition off and then back on again, and it fired up no problem at all. But, as soon as i engaged 1st gear it cut back out again.
It did this a few times, each time would only keep running once i had kept the ignition off for a minute or so.
Then, in my way back from where i was going, it would cut out and then, half a second later, fire back up.
If the bike was to do any of the above im sure it would have me off if i didnt get to the clutch in time :/.
Is this a common fault?? Had anyone came across or heard of this happening before??

Any help would be muchly apreciated!

possibly the sidestand switch or the "upright sensor" have a wire malfuntion????

Definitely sounds like the sidestand to me mine done the same for a while then cut in and out several times round a fast sweeper which was not fun. It then died completely on the side of the road until I was lucky enough to get some help from a fellow biker who stopped in his van with plenty of tools. Bypassed the switch insulated it and made a set of jump leads out of crocodile clips and a bit of wire.... Haven't touched it since And I can't physically put the stand down on the bike with my boots on so no danger of riding off with it down thankfully.

Yea that sounds right.
Ive just put the bike in the garage now n when i put it in first it cut out. I looked down and the side stand was down. I kicked it up restarted the bike and put it in first once again. And it cut out exactly the same with the side stand up as it did with it down.
Going to have a good look tomorrow n will let you all know.
Thanks alot for all the help!
