So I just ordered a pair of regular Diablos from Tyreleader for £148 all in. For some reason though I have the feeling they were discontinued. Am I wrong?

Good tyre in it's day but now getting old. Replaced by the Diablo Rosso and then the Rosso 2, so any new Diablo's around would have to be new old stock probably at least 4 years old.

Mmmm that's what I thought. Mine had em on when I bought it 5 years ago so I plumped for the same. I hope they've been stored properly or they're going back.

Well apparently you can tell the date of manufacture from the sidewall so I'll see when they arrive.

So long as the dates are OK, and like you said, they have been stored properly, you shouldn't have any worries. There's a thread on RSVR.net about an internet deal selling VERY cheap tyres which I think turned out to be tyres over 4/5 years old.

I think I saw that and also how to see how old the tyres are. The ones I had on were 0409 which was about 3 months before I bought the bike.
Hopefully the front will arrive soon and I can get out again. I guess that's the downside, the waiting. The upside is I've saved about £80

I am in the process of changing my tyres and asked the dealer about Diablo's as currently on my bike and I do like them compared to the Rosso.

They were discontinued in 2007 as an official tyre but are still made for oem's. They are not strictly meant to be sold by a retailer it seems but they are on the market still as online retailers etc do deals with oem's and a blind eye is turned. My local tyre dealer said he could not source any from Pirelli as they refused to supply them.

Ah right that explains it. Cheers.
They are a good tyre, I've never had any snags and for £145 a delivered pair plus £10 each for a change you can't go wrong.

My Mv F4 came with a new "old" Diablo when I got it in Jan. It's fine on the road and was ok for a session at Snett but overheated badly after about 10 mins at Donington GP on Monday lapping at about 1:51 but I probably should have let a bit more air out to run it at 28 hot. There's certainly nothing wrong with it and if bought as a sports tyre rather than a track tyre the relatively small difference in performance with a Rosso should be more than compensated by the price!

Ha ha there's 0 chance of me taking mine on a track, I couldn't bare to throw it down the road but I know I'm missing out. I bet your MV is a rocket on the track. Whats it like compared to the RSVR? I've always fancied one.

I got the MV because in my opinion it is the best looking bike ever designed. On the road the handling is not as good as the RSVR and neither are the brakes (I'm feeling a bit of regret in selling the RSVR last month!). Its a 1000 so it's pretty quick in a straight line and the first 3 gears are quite low so it feels quite exciting. On some roads and some tracks the crap fueling makes it less than pleasant to ride and whilst it was ok for a session at Snett, the more technical nature of Donington really showed how much a bike relies on good throttle control to keep it stable and on line. The RSVR is good on track, just a bit top heavy for a skinny bugger like me.

I'd spent the rest of the day at Donny on a 09 Fireblade on which I was lapping about 7 or 8 seconds faster 5thna the MV. It's better than the MV at everything except fast direction changes. Interestingly the only guy who passed me on the day was on an RSV4 and I tagged in behind him for about 2/3 of a lap before I decided this was way to close to a proper race pace and I was too close to crashing to keep up!

So great to hear a proper opinion from someone who's had both. I feel the same attraction tbh as it's a very good looking machine and I'm sure there'll be one in here at some point in the future unless of course I win a Pinagale on the lottery!
I reckon my next move will be the RSV4 as I can't bring myself to join the hoard of R1 owners even though they are superb in all areas.
