Pipe missing from carb, ideas please

Got the bike started and it sounded like it had a miss fire but now on further investigation its a pipe missing from the carb, I havnt got a pic but I'll do my best to explain.

Right hand side of the bike looking under the carb theres a brass nipple that's sucking when the motors running. Theres also a larger plastic branch coming out of the air box, are these supposed to be linked? Theres no tubes lying about looking lost!

If I put my finger over it it still runs fine, infact the 'miss' seems to go.

Any help apreciated.

Sorry yes throttle bodies. Pic now added above. The brass is to the left and the airbox one to the right.

another quick question. On checking the fuel pump plug which was giving problems, I found a single wire disconnected so connected it up, I now believe this is some kind of diagnostic wire and maybe should be pulled apart again.

Andy,

Not 100% will check for sure tomorrow, but think the pipe that is missing is the vacuum for the "slipper clutch". The single connector is for the diagnostics and should be left un plugged, hope this helps.

Mark

It sucks when running so would create a vacuum to whatever its linked to. I wonder if its lying about on the other end?

Ive got a load of different questions at the minute, the spedo's not working either. The dash is displaying everything fine but the speed stays at 0 when moving. I think the sender unit is on the back caliper but dont know where to start to disgnose this one.

I am away untill tomorrow, but if you want I can call round on Tuesday afternoon after I have been to Washington?

That would be good Mark, Im about all day and only working local so can be hoome any time I need to be.

Bring some headache tablets because I'll be fireing loads of questions at you! Do you have a plug spanner as I cant change the plugs because the tool kits missing!

Ive also sorted the forks out (thanks Cuzza) just waiting for them to arrive.

On mine (2003) that brass pipe was covered with a rubber bung thing (that's not a good description). I removed the bung thing when I fitted the connector for the vacuum pipe for the Scottoiler. I think you just need to find some way to seal this up.

Cheers

Rob :)

there is one of these brass pipes on each throttle body, one has a rubber bung the other should have a pipe that runs down between the engine and the frame it is part of the slipper clutch operation.
you can blank it off with a short piece of rubber hose or similar.

speedo sensor?
you can try cleaning the connections but i would just replace the sensor.

Thanks to all who replied. A small rubber bung/nipple fell out of the bellypan when I took it off to do the sprag. Just been outside and its still there so will pop it on and thats another job off the list!
