Hi guys looks like I will be going to the Picos de Europe Spain in summer can anyone give me any tips and must ride roads please

I went there this year with a pal, to be honest he loaded the trips on his twatnav and I just followed, but it was glorious. I'll give him a bell and see if he's still got the routes loaded. but I don't think there's a bad road there, its got the lot, straights, long sweepers, hairpins, narrow bits under rocks fooking loved it.

I was there with a squad of fuds this summer, 16 of us in total.

We were based in Cosgaya which is up the road from Potes where a number of the group had stayed in previous years.

I'm sure I've got a few routes in my satnav or in base camp.

I'll have a look and post them up when I get the chance.

Here's a wee vid I shot when there, it's of the newly tarmacked section coming downhill from yon bronze deer statue towards Potes.

Yer need to be weary on some of the roads, they're covered in cattle, sheep and horse dung along with the aforementioned herds.

I'll have a look through my routes and post up any Picos related stuff.

I think I have a vid of a pack of horses crossing in front of us.

Had a look but it was cows not horses.

I had a look in my base camp but the routes are a total mess with lines running across the Bay of Biscay to Glasgow.

I hooked up my satnav but it turns out my son removed the sd card and formatted it for one of his cameras.

Have a read at this.

These are all worth a visit

Covadonga. 12km south-east of Cangas de Onís, Covadonga is the historic site of the battle that shaped Spain's destiny, and a major pilgrimage destination. The cathedral is stunningly situated in a deep green forested valley, next to the sacred cave and waterfall. Covadonga has bars, restaurants, and hotels, and is a gateway to the national park.
Lakes Ercina and Enol. These beautiful mountain lakes are almost 1000m above Covadonga, reached by 12km of steep winding road. There are various viewpoints and car-parks, some bar-restaurants, and many walking options, as well as the national park visitor's centre and the adjacent mines of Buferrera.
Karst Museum. At Santiyan, south of Cangas de Onís, this installation focuses on the cave systems of the area.

Arenas de Cabrales. Another gateway to the national park, just to the north of the mountains, this town has shops, bars, restaurants, hotels, and walking routes. The area of Cabrales is famous for its strong blue cheese. On the edge of town towards the national park is a cheese museum set inside a cave, whilst a short drive away in Asiegu is the "route of cheese and cider" (www.rutalquesuylasidra.com). A few kilometres west of town is a viewpoint of Picu Uriellu, the Naranjo de Bulnes.

Bulnes. This small mountain village nestles in a deep valley of the central massif, and can be reached by funicular railway from Poncebos, 6km south of Arenas de Cabrales. Bulnes has a small selection of cafes, bars, and places to stay. Short walks from Bulnes lead to the village of Upper Bulnes, and a viewpoint of Picu Uriellu.

Mucker I've just spent an hour or so looking through this Picos thread for the route maps that were posted before we left.

Unfortunately they bring up error codes but have a gander through the the thread for ideas PICOS,,, departing 3-7-18. It's a few pages long but has loads of pics and a few vids on it.

Also have a look at 15061 Motorcycle Rides and Motorcycle Roads

TBH anywhere in the region is braw, the roads are quiet with traffic, the surfaces we rode on were 80% great and the weather was changeable,,,,,,,last full day there had us at 33c lunchtime and on the way back to the hotel we had to ride through a thunderstorm with lightening and rivers running down the roads. Got to the top of the mountain that yon deer statue's on and it was 9.5c and snowing.

Have fun mucker and it's braw to have something to look forward to at this time of year. :thumbup

No problem mucker,,,,,,,,,,,as you've said yer wont go wrong with whatever routes yer choose.

Are you basing yourselves at one place or are you staying at different locations.

The N625 from the north to Riano and the N621 heading northwest from Riano towards Potes is the road with the deer statue on it.

The surface from Riano to the highest point on the N621 was the worst we encountered the whole trip but from the mountain top to La Vega has been resurfaced and is fukkin braw if yer into downhill hairpins. :thumbup

Svenbeast, have a look in BestBikingRoads.com

A lot of the routes have GPX downloadable files on the routes page.

Sign up and login, browse routes and select Europe, scroll down to Spain and select Asturias/Cantabria.

Seems most of the routes on the map once you select them have the gpx files on their individual page.

Thanks Also have had a brief look I am still on the old school paper map so will spend some time and mark them on the map .

Looks like we will have a base and ride out for the day we did that last year in Italy had a couple of apartments had the bikes taken out with all are gear and got flights out gave us max riding where we won't to be ,no long motorway runs no worry about tyres and gear to carry jackpot
