Picking up my new bike at the weekend.

Looking for a bit of advice..

Hopefully picking up my first RSV this weekend. Got a couple of issues. Currently have my fireblade insured with Mce who advised they can't take the blade off and put the mille on? Policy runs out in march which would give me 4 years ncb. Not sure if I should cancel the policy and ring round for quotes.. been quoted £540 fully comp so far. 27yrs young with 3 years no claims bike kept in a Brick garage with an alarm.

Do I cancel my policy and start a new one? Look for some sort of temporary cover or call them back and demand they treat me fairly as a paying customer..

Also.. the bike is currently on sorn so has no tax. Might be picking the bike up on Sunday.. wonder if the boys in blue would understand if it wasn't taxed until Monday? With a receipt, v5 and insurance cover note in hand..

I have about 170 miles to ride it home which I'm really looking forward to but slightly concerned about anpr etc...

w00dzy,
I'm fairly certain that SORN does expire with a change of owner.
To bring thge bike back legally if you have insurance is to be riding to a pre booked MOT. Get your local garage to pop you in the book for the time you're expecting to get back.
As for the insurance, the cheapest way would probably be to add the RSV to your blade policy. It normally only costs £20-£30 to add a bike as you can't be riding both at once!
Good luck mate

Cheers for the reply. It already has an mot but has just been put on sorn due to no insurance. Mce said they can't add it as my current insurer won't cover that specific bike? Sounds a bit off to me.. I think I'll call them again tomorrow.

Your other option is a one day insurance policy on the RSV. There are plenty to choose from these days.....again, about £20 for a day.
Can you borrow trade plates from a local bike shop?

I wouldn't think it can be ridden even on a one day policy as it has no tax. A less honest man than myself might scupper the bike in a certain way that can't be fixed at the roadside and get the RAC to bring it back on a truck!

Going to get it taxed before I pick it up me thinks and ring insurers before hand and try again to add another bike or cancel the policy as I'm going to want to ride long before march.

Fairly new in my area and haven't been into the local bike shops yet, good idea though.

I won't be doing the break down option.. at least I hope I won't have to!

So excited!:doug

Oops.............I forgot the no tax bit! If you do get it taxed though it's an option. There are also bike delivery firms advertising on the interweb that will do anywhere in the country for £100ish. If you could find one local to you it may be cheap. Or ask a local bike shop how much they would charge to collect it for you, obviously intimating about all the future work you'll be bringing it in for :devious

Also, bear in mind that you need most breakdown cover in place a day or two before you can use it (or pay the extra to join at the roadside, which is a LOT).
If you chose the breakdown option!

Think I will tax it online after checking the bike over as I am picking it up on Saturday.. Train from Portsmouth to Plymouth is booked! Only 5 1/2 hours lol.... Looking forward to a 177 mile journey home on it, fingers crossed I am not caught out in torrential rain!

How many tanks you reckon it will tank me to get back.. I'm going for 2 1/2. My AA cover through Halifax bank account covers me on any vehicle I own or am a passenger in which is handy :smilie

Shouldn't be needing that though :)

Going to be sorting out my insurance tomorrow.. will get a thread going when I get her home :) I can imagine waking up on Sunday morning rushing to check our garage to see if it is all a dream!

w00dzy,
I reckon two tanks max :roll
Just have a safe trip and enjoy it. The bike looks good so you should be (are!!!) well chuffed.
