Hi all
I have tried to go through all old posts but can't find this problem. Had a good fast 100 mile run yesterday
Came to bike tonight & noticed the tank was dis formed. By this I mean sucked in not blown out. When I opened the filler cap there was a definite vacuum. Even now after equalizing the pressure there is a small in dent in tank by filler cap. Any help or suggestions. (2006 factory)

blocked breather vent in the fuel cap,and maybe a blocked breather tube

Hello All,
While we are on the subject of de-forming fuel tanks....

I have heard, but never seen, that the plastic tanks of some Aprilia bikes get deformed. Usually a bulging out of the lower part of the tank. Any truth to this? If so, does it have to do with the grade of fuel used? I ask because according to one person, fuels high in ethanol, allegedly, seem to be culprits.

Fortunately this has not happened to my RSV....yet.

Ethanol in petrol has been responsible for deforming lots of plastic fuel tanks on Ducatis, KTM, Aprilias amongst others, though bikes in the US seem more affected as their fuel is higher in ethanol. When E10 is introduced here it's only a matter of time before bad things starts happening (apart from the reduction in power and economy it gives).

Thanks. Guess the best thing for us American RSVR riders is to avoid the ethanol laced gas. I have heard of Ducatis, KTMs and Aprilia's with the tank deforming problem and that the manufacturers are aware but have not done much about correcting the problem. Heard that getting a new tank under warranty is also challenging. Hope we never have to find out!
