Petrol life span

D

danf1234

How long can you leave petrol in the bike before it goes off and causes issues.

(Thinking ahead to winter like - Seeing Summers over LOL)

Contrary to popular belief, petrol lasts a lot longer than people think.

I tend to just keep a small amount (6 ltrs) in my tank over the winter so that if we have a bright, dry and sunny day I can ride it to the petrol station rather than push it.

Never had any problems with stale fuel.

So how long is the longest time between use???

In late 2006 early 2007 I worked away for 6 months, came back and it started first flick of the button and rode as normal.

Like I said though, I only had a few litres of fuel in the tank and topped it up with fresh fuel almost immediately.

I'll agree with amb67 never had any probs with any of my bikes over the years and one had been left for 9 months to a year and started no prob

Petrol does have a life span but I have never experienced it. My lawnmower starts first pull after a whole winter! And I have never had a problem with a motorcycle after a few months in the garage.:eatcorn

if you are leaving a bike for a while you should always leave it with a full tank.
because if it is full the air cant get to the metal it also stops you getting condensation build up in the tank.
this is advice i got from slick performance.
also i have left my zx7r for a year and had no probs.

Must e where i've been going wrong... picked up bike from dealer and after 1.5 miles the ***** died on me completely...wouldnt restart - nothing doing.

Goin to buy some 6 month old fuel before i try again:dowhat

intermitant fault somewhere in the electrics. started with the side stand light coming on, then the redline light came in at random (say 5k) then all the clocks zero'd....finally cutting out / not restarting

Anyway good news (under warranty) they've decided a new wiring loom is a sure fire answer...truly hope it is cos have not had the bike for the last 2 weekends so i think i may have missed summer 2008 altogether.:rant

lowest for of wit from me and lowest form of reliability so far from aprilia...

Beechy,

Sorry to hear about the loom but you knew at the time at buying your RSV that italians can't build reliable electrical systems or gearboxes.

But we still love them when they are running OK.

I nearly always park the bike with a full tank all the time for the same reason. (Except I didn't hear it from slick performance ;))
