Hi people. Nice long ride from Glasgow to ilchester to st Ives, then return. Awesome weather, awful roadworks.

Curiously petrol has been coming out of the cap when I gun it, noticeable after filling. What do you think, is it possible to over-fill to this extent? I've never noticed before, and I've had the tank off completely, so possibly not normal. I do fill right to the top though.

Also, thinking about selling, I want a gen1, what price do you reckon would be fair for a 23000mile '09 1000r that needs tyres, chain & sprocket and a major service?

Ta,
P

There's a seal on the filler, sounds like it's goosed.

There are fixes for it, you'll need to look for them.

Had this on my gen 1. As other have said the seal goes. New seal or stick some packing materials around existing. I cut up a plastic container as packing materials and never leaked since ;)

Too bloody right. Now put the toys back in the pram & get the beers in. :lol

Yes - well, atitude aside, the link is very helpful, and the original post. The rubber seal looks pristine on my bike, I may yet try a spacer as suggested though. I was wondering if the leak could be caused by backpressure, a kink in one of the hoses, not noticed any other symptoms.

My Ducati Fuel cap tends to leak as well, the seals look perfect too, Have ypu checked to see that its not leaking from the surround of the cap, rather than the lifting part?

I've also seen the suggestion of putting a small (unsure of size) rubber ring beneath the gasket. Makes it a bit hard to close the cap, but it supposedly seals tight.

mine has a slight leak too when full as in brimmed , doesn't stay full for long tho :lol so not really too fussed .
tis a job I will get round to eventually .

Mine leaked as yours is, and the fix from Felixstowe fixed it, it's common and this works. Try it

Hi V

Didn't mean any offence with my last post... twas meant tongue in cheek, hence the "big grin" emoti" .. just forum banter .

Anyway... its an easy fix and costs peanuts to try. Hope it helps.
Cheers

Yamaha "O" ring fitted under the fuel cap seal works a treat part number 93210-357A2

I was given a gasket to sort the problem.

One of the dudes on the AP facefud site makes them up at his work.

A perfect cure or so he said, never got round to fitting it.

I stopped filling the tank to the top when the overspill started to lift the decal on the bellypan.

Apologies for the daft question but I have just ordered the Yamaha O Ring and want to ensure I fit it correctly.

I am assuming that it fits on the opposite face (between the rubber seal and cap body and NOT on the side of the rubber seal that mates with the fuel tank aperture?

Many thanks

Correct

O ring's from the push fit 40mm waste pipe (White ones) fit between the original rubber and cap, you have to push down on cap to lock / unlock but better than a lap full of petrol

Lift the tank, on the underside, there are two thin rubber hoses connected to ali nipples connected to breather vents.
Because they are basicaqlly ali, they have a tendancy to furr up and become blocked.
Make sure they are both clear as one releases excess air pressure in the tank.
The other is just a drain for any water that gets into the filler recess (or excess fuel when filling up)
If the tank becomes warm being exposed to sunlight, or a change in temperature, if it can't vent, it will spit fuel past the seal.
Also, on a long run, it could cause fuel starvation issues.
