Performance Chips

Hi,

Just doing some digging and wiring mods to my RSV. Opened the ECU to discover the chip is held in position with some form of mastic. Is this chip standard for an '01 mille. In addition, my bike is totally standard, would I benefit from fitting one of chips from the dutch guy (can't remember his user name). Also could someone please tell me the purpose of a PC3 when used in addition to a chip.

Thanks in advance, cheers

What you have is a performance chip, you need to make sure the small blue wire has been cut.
Ideally you should also have a performance air filter/airbox and end can to match.

Dr Rossi (Alain) is your chip man

A power commander can and will smooth out any holes or dips in the fueling. Although if the RP58 has been down properly and depending on your riding style you may just stick with the chip.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes the blue wire has been cut.

Got a spare can when I bought the bike but the owner made no mention of the chip, I just brought the spare can home in my rucksack - think the can is from the carbon can co. Problem is, I think it looks proper kack.

So would any old aftermarket can and one of Mr hooked filter kits do the trick with this chip? Reason is ever since I bought this bike its been a real toil to drive around town.

Cheers

you might find that changing your sprockets to 16/44 will help around town, it's a common recommended mod on here:thumbup

Cheers yep - I'll check the numbers on the sprockets tomorrow.

Around town it does behave better than it used to before I put new plugs in but still seems to surge and splutter alot, also it can pop back a good bit on over-run :doug. Could this be due to running with standard exhaust and filter but with the chip in the pic.? Or does it sound like I need to get the TB's balanced?

Cheers

Sounds like TB's need a look at. Dr Rossi's chip also smoothes things out nicely. I have his chip, 16/44, and just had the TB's and co2 set up and it's running silky smooth now :inlove it's like a new bike :doug

The RP58 is the original chip wich came with the bikes since 2001.
First map for homologation purposes.
Second map with the airbox derestrickted is pretty decent.
Can be a little jerky at low throttle openings.
Tonym you should give Griff a call and have you're bike serviced.
A tuned eprom can't solve a lack of maintenance.
It can make a good bike perfect!!

I changed a few things on the bike this weekend, including a new chip which is the standard with a little advance - it helps smooth out the jerkiness of the twin by essentially overfuelling e.g. when you come off the throttle, the engine tails off as opposed to mega-engine braking from the standard eprom.

Okey dokey,

Thanks for the replies.
Sounds like I need the services of Griff, only problem is its a hell of a drag from me - bought my bike from Tamworth and it took about 2 hours to get home (should ride faster..... I know), but sounds like the trip is probably worth it. Think I'll get myself a new can and one of hooked filter kits then contact Griff :doug:doug

Forgive me for being a bit thick but I'm still struggling with the concept of the PC3. Lets say for example you get a chip from the Doctor to suit all your mods is the PC3 simply for fine tuning on the dyno?

Cheers.

BTW anybody want to buy a Carbon can co. Stainless steel single can and link pipe, all in OK condition?

if the chip is written perfectly for your engine/exhaust/filter/fuel combo, there is no need for a PC as you would not need to alter the ignition timing or fuelling (unless you also want to add closed loop fuelling control for fuel economy reasons which the original ecu may not have the hardware for but some models of PC do)
