Paranoia sets in! Gremlins in my head!!!!

Hi all,
Thanks for all the replies to my first post, great welcome.
Well today was the day, all done new starter relay and battery fitted
ready to push that start button.
After all the starting issues I have read about on the forum the gremlin started to
niggle, would it start, won't it start!
As described cold start all the way on, hit the button and boom!!!:thumbup
she came to life. All sounds fantastic!
Then I started to set all the readings for the display, perfect all done. However as I am watching the battery reading 13.2 at tickover it dropped to
12.6 then back up to 13.2 IS THAT OK?
Gremlin started to P**s me off then:angry.
Switched the ignition off after she had warmed up, had a little fiddle with the rear footpeg and sorted that, then decided to fire her up again:eek:.
Hit the starter turned over strong but didn't catch only held the button for a matter of seconds and gave no throttle. Panic set in!
I then pulled the cold start halfway round hit the button and boom! fired up lovely pushed back the cold start, ticked over lovely. My question here is, am I being paranoid and worrying for no reason? Should you use the cold start every time you start the bike? I have put the bike on the optimate tonight. Hopefully in the morning all will be ok.
I had a 2000 RSV and just used to turn the key, choke on and off to go never even used to think about it.
I have had the new 06 RSVR and 07 Tuono and didn't give them a second thought they always started on the button. Loved every minute riding them.
Thats why I have bought another RSV and got shot of my Blade.

Someone put me out of my misery so I can sleep tonight and tell me all sounds fine.
The foibles surrounding starting these beasts has fried my head:eek:

Martyn

You would be better with a multi meter on ya bat mate the stock dash reading is not exact .my 05 bike ticks over at 13.8v ish and with very light throttle i can get 14.2v ish with more throttle it goes to 13.5/6/7 ish

hope that helps a little .

DOES YOUR BIKE HAVE THE DREADED BROWN CONNECTOR ISSUE ???

I always use the cold start when firing it up. In the morning all the way and when it is warm (stop for petrol etc etc) just a little. That is coz tick over in my bike is 1500rpm and it does fires up better with a bit of cold start on even when the bike is warm. If you don't get a consistent V reading at a given rpm you could have a problem. It shouldn't be moving more than 0.2 up and down (bear in mind . In my experience, 13.2v at tickover with the lights on on the clocks will probably be around 13.8V at the battery when checked with a multimeter but you want to make sure of that so invest in one. That reading is normal. If you get inconsistent V readings, you can start looking at the coils. (Bear in mind that V will drop when switching brake lights and fans going off)

It will be done tomorrow thanks for the heads up.

Mine's really cold blooded mate - if I'm not really careful until she's fully warmed up she'll stall and be a pig to start.
Proper warm up (70 degrees plus) before riding is a good plan.

With high comp V2s its vital - as I'm sure you know - to maintain the battery in A1 condition. An optimiser is essential in our winters IMO, get that online and you don't have to worry about meters etc. It'll take a bit of time to perfect the cold start technique for the bike, they're all a bit different. I use full choke zilch throttle, works for me. Warm start = no choke and just a blip, no worries. They dont like repeated cold starts, get it going first time and let it warm up.

Cheers Guys
Going to sleep now, no nightmares:eek: me hopes
