Paint Codes

A guy's coming round later today to give me a quote on respraying my fairing mid panel and belly pan and he's asked me if I know the paint code for the pearlescent yellow on my '00 Mille?

After a quick search on here it seems Aprilia haven't released the codes - is this correct? Has anyone tried asking a Aprilia dealer for them?

Also, anyone have a rough idea what a mid panel respray might cost just so I know if I'm being ripped off?

Cheers, Gray.

Let us know how much he quotes Tantrum :thumbup I need some paintwork doing on mine too :roll is he a mate or is it a proper paintshop job :dunno

Will do sprocker :)

Well it's sort of a proper paintshop job :confused he's a local guy who repairs car and bike bodywork and resprays too. I emailed quite a few paintshops with pics of the damage and he was the only one who could be bothered to reply!

I did phone one place and was quoted £150 to spray the yellow panel including all prep work and between £150-£175 for the belly pan depending on colour but they couldn't do it for some time and even then they would take at least two weeks but I don't know if that's reasonable or not :dunno

The guy who's coming today said he would show me how to prep it properly if I want to do it to save some time and money so he sounds like a decent bloke.

Will keep you posted.

Apilia paint is by Letcher so you should be able to make up the colour from their range.
a lot of the colours are what they are by use of tinted laquers in various layers so it's often the case that you won't find a one colour match and have to make it up using combinations over each other.

Aprilia fluoro red i'm told starts off as a yellow base coat for example and then lots of red tinted laquer layers over the top.

I have a url for codes up to about 02/03 somewhere if i can dig it out.

Here you go. Hopefully yours is one of these colors

Cheers spoonz :thumbup I think mine is on there - the guy who's doing the spraying is going to check it out.

Well the quotes were a bit better this time :) he reckons on £90-£100 for the yellow panel and £90 for the bellypan with both prices less the more prepping I do myself. He suggested rubbing the belly pan down with 400 grit paper and 1500 on the panel.

He said the hardest part is getting a good match on the colour.

Got the fairing panel back today and it's bl**dy brilliant. I could have sworn it was a new panel :thumbup the guy's a genius.

Rather than paint the whole panel he suggested just doing the damaged area and then blend it in so the panel would still match up with the rest of the bodywork and it's worked a treat.

He had a bit of a problem getting just the right shade of yellow as he found 3 aprilia yellows and had to test for the best match. Cost £95 in the end which was still £55 less than any other quote I got :)

So sprocker if you need any spraying on your yellow beauty he's your man. Check out his website: http://www.steve-edwards.com/index.php

He showed me some of his other work and it was pretty amazing too. I was going to post some before and after pics but the computer died a couple of days ago and took the before pics with it :rant and any pics of the panel now wouldn't do it justice.

Cheers mate thats not too far from me, I might ride down on my days off and let him have a look for himself :thumbup

No there are no colour codes. The guy who did mine has the right yellow now and has enough left to do a few panels. I might have some more of mine done when I can afford it.

Let me know when you're coming over - would be nice to meet up :thumbup

Good to meet you today Tantrum :thumbup and keep me posted on the paint job, I tried to shout at the traffic lights but dont think you understood me.

Tell you what mate you got the bargain of the century with your bike and I'm going to do my bellypan same as yours it looks the biz :inlove

Halfords tomorrow for me :biggrin

Good to meet you too sprocker :)

Of course I'll keep you up to date with the paint - I'm sure Steve won't rest until he gets it just right.

Here's the link for the aprilia decals I used on my bellypan:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250224566133&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015
Just ask them to do them 320mm instead of 200mm - they're the same price they just charge a bit extra for postage as they have to post them in a tube. The colour of mine was light graphite grey.

Here's where I got my touch-up flashy yellow from:
http://www.bikecolours.com/
I got in touch with them and they do the aerosols but you have to use a ground coat, a base coat and clear coat much the same as Steve has done so don't know if that will help you? Mind you the kits are only £16.99 so might be worth a try :dunno.

Glad you like the bellypan :thumbup I think the black and yellow contrast is quite eye catching. Good luck with yours.

Can you let me know where you got your RSV fairing decals from?

Look forward to a proper ride out with you and some of the guys on here one day :).

It was the Satin Black that I used and the Grey Plastic Primer.

I rubbed the bellypan down with 400 grit wet and dry then put 2-3 coats of the primer on. I didn't need to rub the primer down at all then sprayed on 3 coats of the black.

Just hacking some holes in some side panels at the mo ready for the Black Satin and Ally Mesh. Will post pics when they're done :)
