Oz wheels- how much lighter?

I'd like to make my standard RSV lighter as I feel that's where the most performance is to be gained.

How much lighter are the forged wheels from the RSV-R?

Ta!

The OZ wheels were claimed 20% lighter but since 07 aprilia stopped putting OZ wheels on and fit Russian made Malgatec forged wheels instead which are not as light as the OZ and maybe much less than 20%.

Even the 20% is probably optimistic to be honest but as it's unsprung weight anything is good.

a 180 tyre would save you more than the wheel is likely too on it's own

Noooo!!!! Not the 180 tyre!!!

I'm now championing the cause for 190's. I should have a before and after photo-

Brands Hatch, Druids. Yesterday with a 190/55 v June with a 180/55.

190 tyre = peg scraping lean, 180 = running off the edge of the tyre...

Haynes/Aprilia specs claim a 10kg loss between the standard & R versions... not sure how much are the wheels alone... as its including carbon fibre panels too !! :dunno

would filling the tyres with helium make them any lighter !? :biggrin

Ok... that's useful.

So if I junked the headlight and fitted a blank nose cone, removed the mirrors and then replaced the wheels I could potentially lose maybe 12kg?

There's always one....

Sure, I agree massively with that statement (cheapest and easiest way to make the bike faster) but in this instance I promise it doesn't apply to me!

large part of that weight difference overall between th R and Factory is it's wheels. Especially the 180 which is party why it's on there.
It's a good way of saving weight without spending any money for Aprilia as they probably pay the same for 180 or 190

Not sure Carbon saves much over plastic.

The most performance gained is in set up and rider tuiton, and a 190 won't allow more lean angle than a 180 it may offer marginally more grip due to slightly more contact but that is about it.

I would spend money on the basic mods first like gearing, PC111 and custom map and get you suspension set up good, spending money on wheels is expensive for very little return, better spending money on better brakes to stop quicker as braking is a big part of a lap time:thumbup
