Overheating problem

just popped into town, only just over a mile, but stuck in plenty of traffic and noticed the temp reading was at 94. As i rode back it cooled down to around 80, good air flow on return journey.
The fans did'nt kick in at all, not sure what temp they do but would have thought it should be way before 94! Thinking faulty switch or fuse.
Checked coolant level, thats fine and also run the bike for a while with the rad cap off to see if theres an air lock, still the temp went up to 83, at that point turned the engine off.
Any ideas?

If you are in traffic it will rise to 90+, thats perfectly normal. Think fans are 97+ but not sure though.

Once you are running at a reasonable speed it should stabilise to 78.

Not overheating matey!!

oh right, that seems bloody hot though, forgot to mention that im sure i got a whiff of coolant aswell, will check for any evidence of leakage in a bit

The maximum temp is 120, shouldn't hopefully go anywhere near that though!

In the manual it says that if the temp goes between 115-120 to turn off the engine.

dont forget to check your hose clips if you can smell coolant the standard ones are **** change them if they havent been done theres loads on here about the clips

Yeah dude, was just about to mention the clips, i did mine a couple of weeks ago, only a few quid for some stainless jubilee clips and only take a few mins to swap, worth it for the peace of mind. Much better to spend a few minutes of your own time to prevent it than waste ages waiting for the AA at the side of the road.

panic over, fans cut in at 97 and no sign of coolant leak, must've been rain water, cheers lads

The T is the hottest-running bike I've owned - has it's advantages though, it warms up bloody quickly from a cold start.

U reckon gilo? My Suzuki used to run at stoopid temperatures. At the lights as soon as it stopped u could count itlike seconds as the temp gauge rose. I don't find the t that bad. The air cooled BMW I had wasn't bad either. Cracking engine that boxer twin.
