Hi, just bought my first Aprilia 6 days ago and already feels like it's love!!!
Just a couple of things that I'd welcome any advice about: Are there any issues leaving everything connected to the battery when using an optimiser? Always been ok with other bikes but book says to disconnect. Had a Datatool alarm fitted so don't want it to drain the battery.
The other thing is when getting on the throttle coming out of slow bends (around 3k revs) it isn't smooth, jerking and then kicking in hard. It's only done about 100mls so could it be a bedding in issue?

Hi & welcome to the fold.

The optimate/miser can be hooked up without disconnecting anything, keep it plugged in when it's parked, they need a good battery to start.

The snatchy throttle is a result of the emission regulation friendly ECU fuel map. Once you have it back for the 625mile service get the dealer swap it onto Map 2 on the ECU, I assume you will be fitting aftermarket cans at some point? This fuel map runs richer and will remove a lot of the stumbling. The other thing to do is swap the front sprocket over, (I assume it's new) it should have been delivered with a 15t front sprocket "for track use" :) Get this fitted, and consider a 42 tooth rear sprocket as well. Dropping the gearing lifts the engine revs out of the rough patch around town and helps with the low speed stuff.

Aprilia deliver them set up this way to meet emission regs.

The other part is your riding style, it's a V-Twin and you will adapt to being much more precise with the throttle with a few miles under your belt, it's a different baby to Jap multi's.

Edit - dropping the gearing has almost no effect of mpg, the growing addiction to the twisty bit on the right however does. :)

But I read on the rsv forum today that aprilia recommend [handbook] we switch of the main switch when the bike is parked [although not when the fans are working] to stop the bike draining power

Thoughts?
 
Welcome, TP.

Keep the revs above 4k and it won't feel lumpy. Difficult around town and traffic but if you follow Batf's advice that should sort it.

Your jerky throttle response is exactly what used to happen to mine, the only difference is that I bought mine second hand (it was on map 1 with Akra's) and yours is brand new by the sound of things. Get it sorted at the first service like BF says.

Welcome, and the above advice is spot on. It really is a different (far better) bike with map 2, cans, and lower gearing.
 
Fit like TT min..welcome aboard...nuthin tae add as they boys are spot oan, other than jist git yersel ready fur the pish taking an banter. Ye cannae beat it!
 
Cheers for all the advice. Can't run to new cans yet as lost nearly £3k on the trade in for the T after only having last bike for 4 months so still paying for my mistake. Wrong decision but sorted now.
 
Bummer on the £3k but don't worry about the cans. When I heard how loud the standard can was on my Gen1 I realised there was no need :thumbup

If yer worried aboot whit it's like under 3k rmp jist feather the effin clutch until yer get used to it.

Don't be fillin yer heid wae all sorts of a need this and this cause a need it to run like a smooth as feck il4.

All Machines were designed to be used, some better than others and all have differing characteristic's.

Jist enjoy mucker, and ride it like yer an effin fud.
 
Good advice chaps, still running in and all a bit low revs so far keeping below 6k so not really had a chance yet to ride it like it should be ridden using torque and engine braking. Original cans look ok (not like the FZ-1 I had last year) so no hurry to change - wait and see how it goes.

Nah - you have to keep buying your Italian mistress little trinkets (levers, rad covers, screens.....) - she loves it and rides all the better for it!
 
Sadly yes Hector. Sold my FZ-1 as I couldn't take to it and was hanging with a cruiser crew so on impulse paid a fortune for the H-D. Chucked another 1k at it for short pipes, did 300mls and traded for the Tuono.

What I want to know is why Tuono's aren't pushed in bike press like all the japs, Brits and other Italians? Would have saved me three years of searching for the right bike and 3 wasted purchases since selling my Firestorm (great bike but can't do sports any more due to shagged elbows).

Sadly the UK bike press is always pushing Triumph's speed & street triples. For a while they did acknowledge that the Tuono was the best Naked bike, but I guess Ducati do better press junkets.

I am sooo sick of "Triumph this" and "Triumph that" in the bike mags and papers that I have decided not to buy any ... and to divert the cash to worthy causes.

I am calling this "my philantropic phase of life".

Tis better to give than to receive ... so sayeth the lord ... and as nae fud gives me owt ... I am giving to me.

This week alone I have sponsored 12 cans of Skandinavian pish and 4 bottles of Californian Shiraz
 
That's cos Triumph make great roadbikes.

Having just moved from a Tuono to a Speed Triple (for reasons that many on here are aware of) they are remarkably similar in many ways in how good they are on the road, they both make a great (albeit different) noise, they both will give sportsbikes a run for their money but when you get home you don't feel like you have been spending the day being punished for your bit of fun.
