Hi, Has anyone had problems with an optimate frying there batery when left on long term? Batteries never seemed to last long in my Duke, just assumed it was the bike taken alot ot of the battery but same has happened in my mille when left on optimate.
Never heard of that before, charging and discharging batteries is good for them, I don't have on optimate I use my charging circuit of my alarm system to do this, maybe your optimate is a duffer?

I've had the old version Optimate & now I've had the new version for a couple of years & I recon they shorten the life of the battery :dunno. Now I just let my battery discharge naturally & put the Optimate on the night before I want to ride it so it topped up & I don't shag the sprag :biggrin
That happened to a mates VFR a few years ago, he said it made it swell, infact in the space of a year and half he went through 2, he binned the optimate and never had the problem again. Yet I've had mine for years (like many others here and elsewhere) and never had any problems

I think "I don't shag the sprag" might be some sort denial of participation in (adult only) deviant activity

If you try & start the bike with a partially discharged battery all the time it ends up ruining the sprag

I have 2 optimates on permanently. The only thing you have to be careful about are the fiddly plug connector things, and making sure you've got a decent connection.
Only put my Datatool charger on every other weekend over the winter, then only if the bikes not ridden for more than a couple of days over the summer. Had the bike 6 years and only last year was the original battery changed. Had two optimates and both broke. Very poor quality (China again) hence trying te Datatool (still China unfortunately) which does look more robust.
