Hi everybody,

my name is Pedro, I'm Portuguese and I'm currently without a motorcycle. I sold my Suzuki SV1000 about a month ago because I wanted to go to the "next level", the Tuono !
I closed the deal on a 2007 Tuono about a week ago. I had to travel to the UK to do business, because there are no 2nd gen Tuonos for sale over here. So I'm waiting for the transport company to deliver her after the 4th of January, as their work got held up because of the bad weather :thumbdown

So here I am, gathering as much Tuono information as I can, and hoping to contribute to this site :thumbup

Hello Pedro

Good luck with the Tuono mate, you WILL love it.

Where in Portugal are you at?

I used to get to Ababoda near Lisboa regular. Loved the country.

Welcome and get stuck in

I'm very eager to get my hands on the Tuono - the SV was a great bike, but lacked some power to be considered a real sporty v-twin ( although that didn't keep me from going to a couple of trackdays with her ); also, I grew tired of the riding position. So enters the Tuono :biggrin

I had actually never seen a Tuono in person until last week ! RSV's and Mille's yes, but no Tuonos. Rumours say that here in Portugal there are only about eighteen of these naked beauties registered...:drool

Mick, I live 10 minutes away from Lisbon. A good thing we have here is that you can ride a motorcycle all year long, we don't get much snow in these parts.

Thanks for the welcome - I will be updating this topic as soon as I have fresh info :)

Welcome Pedro! Canada sounds a lot like Portugal in the paucity of Tuonos area. I have yet to see another T on the road, and I have travelled extensively with her. Just shy of 40K km on my 07. Hip deep in snow right now so I'll be looking forward to spring!

Thx !
The one I bought has around 9000 Km's on her; if I'm not mistaken, she's due for service at 10000 Km's.
Having spoken to a mate who owns a '04 RSV, I am aware that Aprilia parts are slightly more expensive than parts for the japanese "crowd", but I was wondering if anyone could give an estimate of how much this 10000 Km's service will be...?
I've been browsing the AF1 forum too and it seems there are at least 3 issues with the Tuono that I should be aware of:
1) the infamous rear brake which requires bleeding outside the scheduled service intervals
2) stator failure
3) melted brown connectors

How common are these issues ? shvlheadwolf, has your Tuono with 40k Km's shown any of these problems ?

Ive had the spragg clutch go at around 10000 and I get the rear brake prob. Also melted 2 solenoids but they are a 2 minute replacement.

A mate has put a heat shield between rear brake slave and exhaust which seems to have cleared the fade problem.

I got another reply from the transport company today saying they still haven't got a definite date for this transport due to the bad weather :thumbdown
So here's a question for the UK members on this board: is the weather so bad over there that you would find it dangerous to drive a van around ?
Pardon my ignorance, but when I went to Southborough ( Kent ) on December 20th to close the deal, sure the area was covered in snow, but there were no roads blocked anywhere around :dunno You certainly have to drive more carefully, but that's no impediment in my understanding ?

Airports closed. Roads closed, schools etc etc etc. Gotta expect delays mate its been severe. And may get worse.

2 snowflakes and a threat of more shuts this country down fella, local councils run out of road salt so no roads get gritted, happens everytime the white stuff falls, sad state of affairs here in britain :yes

Congrats on buying the Ape tho mate, the wait will be worth it as ya gonna love it :thumbup

Thx !

The first two to be honest. The stator went at about 20K and was replaced on waranty. Fuckers didnt put the head on properly and I nearly binned it pulling out onto the highway in front of traffic as Andiamo was pissing oil all over the right side of the rear. The rear brake is ***** unless power flushed as recommended by the Aprilia memo. If you try to ol' skool it and just sit there pumping the brake by hand, yer ******.
My original Brown Connector is still intact...

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
The transporters have confirmed the pickup date and they estimate the delivery to my door should be made by the end of this week, or the weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm thinking that it should. My '07 came with both, but I believe the '08s came with just the seat, and no cowl. I have an extra cowl for a '97 TLS if ya need it... *grin*

Does anyone know if a seat cowl from a '05 RSV fit a '07 Tuono ?
I'm looking at the parts list for the Tuono ( http://www.apriliagenuineparts.co.uk/component-rsv-1000-tuono-2006-2008-rear-body-fairing-1773.php ) and I'm a bit confused about item #15 , the saddle cover base - this part doesn't come as standard on all Tuonos ? Where is the pillion seat attached then ?

If the Rsv is the current model [same shape as T] and not a late registered old one they fit.
#15 is the base of the cowl. It has a little lid on it so you can put a mouse in it.
The rear seat just clips on same as the cowl. Mine needs a small forward push.

I just want to leave a warning to anyone thinking of using a transport company to move your motorcycle in the UK.

- I hired a UK transport company named WrapnSend ( http://wrapnsend.moonfruit.com/# ) to make the transportation of the Tuono I purchased. This transportation was from the UK ( Tunbridge Wells ) to Portugal ( Amadora, near Lisbon ). I paid for this service in advance, by bank transfer.
- After many delays, the english courier hired by WrapnSend made his way to Spain, where he would be met by a spanish driver that would bring the bike to me - this was all "arranged" by WrapnSend, not me.
- The spanish driver disappeared and could not be reached by anyone. The english driver wanted to return to the UK with the Tuono. The people from WrapnSend and I managed to convince the english driver to go to Southern Portugal ( about 300 Km's away from where the motorcycle should be delivered ) to deliver it to me directly; the english driver agreed to this, as long as he got paid 200€ in cash because of the extra miles he had to drive ( he was only hired to drive to Cordoba, Spain );
- I asked WrapnSend who would be paying this extra money for the service. WrapnSend said they would pay for it.
- I agreed to this, so I drove 300 Km's to southern Portugal to get my motorcycle. I paid the 200€ in cash to the english driver. And then I had to return. Obviously, there were fuel and toll expenses on my accont. 600 Km's was the distance I had to travel only to get my motorcycle to my house, where it should have been delivered in the first place.
- Up to this date, I have not been returned my 200€. WrapnSend have stopped replying to my e-mails, and they just started bouncing back, so I'm guessing they must have blocked my e-mail already.

They also work with sites like Shiply (http://www.shiply.com/transport-provider/WnS/) and Uship (http://directory.uship.com/uk/Wrapnsend/) , so be warned. These are not trustworthy people. :thumbdown

shvlheadwolf, how much time did your bike have when the stator failed? reason i ask is mine went with 8.2K but 3 yrs. later. warranty sez 2 years. i have yet to talk to Aprilia but anticipate a response like, "so sorry". I can't believe the stator would fail at all, much less with such little time on the bloody thing. and it's effing expensive!
