Ok, I bought the thing - '06 Tuono R

Now for the sorting of the thing.

First thing: Rev counter does not work. If I buy a new dash, what is involved in mating it up to my bike? What are the codes for? The dash currently tells me to remember to set the codes, not sure what that means. The manual is not clear on this. Are these codes for Aprilia dealers to prevent fiddeling with the ECU, or is it some security measure? Am I better off trying to have the tachometer fixed by an automotive dash repair shop? Or by a new replacement?

Second thing: When riding the bike, and rolling on the throttle in any gear, the thrust seems to diminish slightly after about half the throttle travel has been rolled on. In other words, full throttle seems to yield less power than about half or two thirds throttle. This occurs with the stock exhaust pipes fitted as well as with a set of JISU aftermarket pipes. My limited understanding of fuel injection would point to the mapping beeing to rich near the full/max throttle position. So how could i fix this issue, and/or access the fuel injection maps?
To further know where i stand on the somewhat underwhelming power output, please chime in on what I should be expecting from a stock geared Tuono with 11k miles. I was expecting wild power-wheelies in the first 3 gears. At the moment, all I'm getting is a slight rise of the front wheel in 2nd gear after chopping and whacking the throttle back on in the meat of the powerband. :banghead Am I just spoiled by my old Fazer 1000 in terms of power and acceleration??? Btw, the fazer would wheelie nicely through 2nd gear when clutched up, never managed a roll on lift unless in 1st.

Please help me figure this bike out so I can enjoy it to the fullest. Thanks!

i think you can just plug and play with the dash, the code i think is for ther keys and code for imboliser,
as for the dip, they are known to have a flat spot at 5-6k, a chip will help there,
stock gearing is quite long, i did + 2 on the rear, that will give you the thrill your seeking!

dont forget vtwins dont rev like inline 4's, its about grunt, so dont bother redlining it!

no chip available for Gen 2, have a trawl through the site and all of your questions will be answered

Thought you need a code for the dash if you swap...

Any fault codes stored on your dash ?

only if a user code has been done, if not i think you can just swap,

Yep...new clocks come coded 00000. So a straighforward fit, and you get to choose your own code.
If you buy secondhand, make sure you have the code. Without it, they're useless.

Power lack could also be dirty air filter. Make sure it can breath properly. Not sure how much a stock set up will lift the wheel, but I think it would.
Mine does it easily in the 2-3 first gears and also at full throttle with smaller bumps on the road in coming gears, but it is also fitted with KN air filter, modified filter box, 15 tooth front sprocket and 42 rear, Mivv cans and Powercomander V with 2 maps available with the one for cruising with slightly leaner on middle throttle position and the other map more for race mode and not very economic.
Just a thought,, could it be the lamda sensor cutting of fuel ? I think that needs to be eliminated also.. And the standard Map2 does this?

Well, the PO told me it was on map3. Not sure how reliable that info is.
How can I access the ecu mapping?

As far as I'm aware the ecu has only two maps.

Unfortunately the only way of checking is with an Axone unit, in other words it needs to go an Aprilia dealer.

T, great tae see yer still a fookin Fud. :yes. :thumbup
