Seems like the site's been down for a few days. Welcome back Tuonozone!

Anyway, I did an oil change on my T this weekend as otherwise it was going to be 700 miles till my next window of opportunity. I couldn't get the oil filter off the tank as I only have bi-hex sockets and couldn't get a good fit on it. Have asked Santa for a set of Hex sockets for xmas ;)

How essential is it for this oil tank filter clean? I'm just about to hit 10,000miles so I'm guessing its only ever been done once when it was new (if at all). Some people don't even seem to know about this filter! If anyone's done it can you tell me what sort of state it was in?

Yep, I didn't know about a filter in the oil tank - its news to me.
Maybe 1 of our brain boxes will help you out mate

New one tae me and all H. Where aboots on the tank is it sited ???

Eh?What filter is that then?
The only filter I know is the one in the side of the engine.Who told you there was a filter in the tank?

Tuoldo oil tank and fittings.I see no filter.

Cheers KB, I thought I was missing something - the ball & chain tells me often enough that I am.

I believe part no12 has a filter on it. Read it in an Aprillia manual (US spec) which listed it as cleaning every other oil change. Cant link you to the manual as I've only got my phone at this minute.

It`s No 12 as shown but would say it`s more like a coarse strainer than filter as there`s no paper - fibre element in it ?

Changed oil and filter on the T a few weeks ago for hibernation , didn`t bother my arse with the tank strainer but it only takes a couple minutes to take it out for a look . Would have a look at it every other oil change ......

Ride on and don`t worry about it mate:thumbup:thumbup

Well,well,well,...yer learn summat new everyday.
As rig1 said,it just looks like a gauze strainer in the feed tube.I guess it could,in theory, become sludged up after a period of time.If you have already refilled the tank with fresh oil,I would'nt worry about it this time.

Sweet, cheers all! Is kinda what I figured, but thought I'd ask anyway. Will do it next time round, but seems like its not so important anyway :)

aye evri days a school day...ah thought ah kent ma way roond a T oil change nae bother........but ahm nae particularly worried aboot yon wee strainer jobbbie tho, doubt it wid bung up much due tae the flow. Probs there jist for catchin chunkier things that faw aff before they get sooked thru the engine.

An if yiv got bits that big loose in yer oil theres obviously a bigger problem afoot!!!

No need to bother m8. I ordered one when i did my first maintenance. It's useless. It's not really a filter as much as a sieve. It´s for the large chunky bits if you would feck up something.
You can take it off, clean it with some air & brake cleaner, afterwards just put it back. Remember the rubber ring (11) & check the hose clamp. Old models tend to mess up the hose.

Thats good info the sort u only get off people who know their onions......:thumbup

I checked the same filter on my falco once and it was spotless. as rig1 says it is a strainer for coarse material that would indicate serious problems elswhere. My main concern was the clip around the hose which on the falco was not reusable, and a jubilee clip was to wide for a good seal. If this joint fails you will have a BIG problem so make sure you have a new crimp style clip ready before you start.
