Oil pump woes !!!!

Long story short I knew had possible oil pump problems on my 02 Mille last week so chucked it in the garage and forgot about it for a few days totally pissed off !!

Anyway took the clutch off today and stripped the oil pump apart, Didn`t look to bad and tolerences ok so shoved the pump back together then i noticed the teeth on the plastic gears had ground down and rounded off ..............**** !!

The gear on the back of the clutch housing has rounde off as well .

Has anyone on here seen this **** happen before ?
Looks like my pump has jammed up to do this damage but i couldn`t see anything nasty lying around in there when I stripped it and was spinning no probrem when i stuck it back together ?

Looks like i`ll have to get a new pump and gears but shitting myself that the whole engine could be screwed :exclamation .

Had full service done at dealers about 3000 miles ago so oils etc were all fairly recent

The pump gears are meant to be sacrificial so they break before anything else does. It may have seen some clutch abuse which might not have helped.

if the pump etc looks ok, replace the gears and try here out. You could always pop the cover and re inpect the gears after a few miles to make sure they are not deteriorating again.

As long as you had oil pressure, the motor should be ok

Gonna call time on this one am only throwing good money after bad ........16 000 miles and fooked !!

By the time i spend money on gears ,pump rotors gaskets and the rest i`m half way towards the price of a another engine with no garauntee it aint too far gone ?

I love these bikes but my confidence in them has been rattled !

Will be trying to hunt down another engine all the same .

Any ideas how i can verify an engine isn`t stolen before i buy ??

Run the engine number past your local police computer. If it's recorded stolen the Chassis and Engine numbers should be on their database.
