oil pressure light

After a good run out the other day I parked up for approx 10mins when starting I got all the inital standard warning lights but after the motor had been runing for say 30 sec the red triange flickered on for about 3 to 5 seconds and went out. I immediately stopped the engine and the restarted and all was well no light. I rode it home and no light. Let it sit for a while then started again no problem and after another say 3 goes of starting standing/starting etc no light issue. Its never done this before.

Prior to this happening I had just rode on 35mils of fast road and redlined the motor say 7mins prioir to stopping (no red warning lights all ok). I am thinking (hoping!) that it was just one of those things and the motor was hot and the oil just drained back. level was 1/2 way when this happened. Its usually 3/4 up the level (which it was when I got home after a more steady ride!)

not sure if anyone else has ever got this issue?.

It isn't an issue.

I am guessing your bike has got the new long oil filter fitted, when the engine is hot it takes a few seconds for the oil to come fully up to pressure. It is a modification that the engine manufacturer made to the bikes post 08, and has been retro fitted to a few bikes.

The older "short" filter had a bypass valve, and at higher revs oil used to bypass the filter on some engines, Rotax have decided that low pressure on hot starts is less harmful than dirty oil at full chat, so we get this little foible.

If you want rid of it, swap the filter cover to the earlier type and fit a short filter.

Liz's 07 was fitted with the long filter by our dealer this spring, her bike now suffers this, as does my 09. In our case it was after water stop following a long ride through the desert in Northern Spain, feckin hot as hell.

Mine does this occasionally, I have the long filter. Seems to do it more on some oils than others. On Silkoline semi synth it does it loads, just changed to HG 10w-50 and it hasnt done it since. Only happens when hot

Thanks for reply's. Its an 09 model and happended after a long ride out reving quite hard then stopping & starting after about 7mins.

One change that has happended recently is that I was sold the wrong grade oil for topup 10-40 and not 15-50 same Motal semi oil/spec etc. Only put in 300ml did not follow the golden rule of checking yourself and relying on others that should know & have faith in. however I have been told that this is no problem but did start to think that that may be a factor. The motor can't be that critical and they can run on full 10-40 with no issues.
