Hey guys, real quick one. I noticed at the end of last year there was a reasonable amount of oil being thrown out of the breather (exits on left hand side of rear cyl head) on my bike, it wasnt a huge amount but enough to warrant me fitting a catch bottle over winter to stop the inside of my fairing becoming a swimming pool. Could there be any specific reason for this ? is it normal ?
Thanks

Ok thanks spoonz, im sure it was at correct level but i had only just got the bike and wasnt 100% on exactly how/when to check the oil so maybe i did get it wrong. i'll bear this in mind this year. cheers !

I had to fit an oil catch can between the Airbox and the breather. It does really work.

No more oil inside the airbox anymore...

But you do have to check your oil levels. Overfilling normally causes this problem. I usually fill it under the oil level from the oil tank, so only when it is runing hot, you can see the oil is on its levelling marks.
Also, if you add more oil than necessary you will probably lose some hp by the way...

If you see how is the breather made... the strange thing is that it does not breath out more quantities of oil than it does...

The easiest way to minimise oil blowback into the airbox and subsequently the breather tube is to maintain the oil level in the bottom 1/3 area of the sight tube. There's absolutely no reason to maintain the oil level anywhere over half to the "Max" line. Bottom third is the sweet spot.

Thank you Ecosse, with never having owned a dry sump bike before i wasnt 100% sure exactly what was going on :) but i will aim for lower half now. I have noticed the quite big change in level ...
Btw, you mention the breather and the airbox, mine doesnt go to the airbox ??? it has always just been sat 'loose' down the side of the bike and when i got it, it used to spit a bit into the inside of the fairing. I have now fitted a little catch bottle and fed it into there ... is this ok?
Cheers

Yeah, that should be fine m8. If you do overfill with oil, eventually you will suffer from it gathering within the airbox. Keep tabs on the oil level and all will be well.
